Last week, Bais Medrash Avraichim of Flair held a beautiful Maamad Hachtora l’chovod their new Rav, R’ Yakov Nochum Newman shlit”a, at the Bnos Esther Malka hall.

Beyond marking this momentous occasion, the event was a powerful testament to the tremendous success and growth of Bais Medrash Avraichim and its integral role and hashpa’a on the entire Flair kehilla.

R’ Yakov, a talmid muvhak of the Springfield Rosh Yeshiva, Reb Elya Meir Sorotzkin zt”l, is well known for being a tremendous lamdan and mechadesh possessing immense yedi’os and a magnificent koach hasbara, earning him the praise of many gedolei torah as a true “Mayan Hamisgaber”.

The evening’s program commenced with Divrei Pesicha delivered by one of the mispallelim. The speaker highlighted the immediate and profound connection that both the mispallelim   and the broader kehilla felt toward R’ Yakov and his presence. This immediate affinity was attributed to  R’ Yakov’s notable geshmak and chiyus, particularly as exhibited in the manner in which he transmits chidushei torah as well as the mesorah of his Rabbeim.

The Maamad was then addressed by R’ Yakov’s Shver, Rav Chaim Ozer Gorelick shlit”a, a talmid of Reb Leib Malin and Reb Berel Soloveitchik. Referring to R’ Yakov as “not stam a talmid chochom,” Rav Gorelick emphasized the Rav’s uncanny ability to discern and recognize what constitutes a truly emes’diga p’shat.

The large crowd was then addressed by the Rav, who expounded on his profound joy in having the opportunity to join such a choshuva group of b’nai aliya. The drasha eloquently expressed the Rov’s most sincere hope that the light of Hashra’as Hashchina that continues to grow within the Bais Medrash will perpetually shine outward to the mishpachos and the entire kehilla, thus truly establishing the Bais Hamedrash as a Mikdash Me’at, a piece, a cheilek, of the Bais Hamikdosh.

The event, which saw the attendance of numerous gedolei rabbonim, concluded with a moving drasha delivered by Rav Yitzchok Sorotzkin shlit”a. He spoke of R’ Yakov’s unique qualifications to serve as a Rav. Quoting a yesod from the Alte Telzer Rav, he eloborated on the madreiga of a ”Tomim“, where a person’s varied kochcos harmonize and synthesize to complement and strengthen one another. This unique synthesis enables the individual to fully accomplish and effect positive change, thereby becoming a true ”Lev Ha’am“, capable of carrying each and every individual with their respective needs.
