  1. This past week in the TLV in the coffee room someone wrote,

“you do not have to go to the voting booths you can request a mail in ballot, just like we did this year for the fire elections. my wife & I with 100 others defeted the budget and saved lakewood $50,000”.

I now take a look at these pics. its 80 degrees out side. What is the lakewood Fire department doing at 8:00am sunday morning, they are training. Training to save your life, training to save your property, Training, training & more training.

Now you say YOU saved lakewood $50.000. what you realy did was maybe put a FF in danger because that $50.000 was ment to purchase new gear, or new equipment or update the old equipment. maybe that $50.000 was ment for new laders that were ment to get to the upper levels of your new McMansion that has much higher roofs than before and now they can’t reach that upper level or roof.( G-D forbid there was someone hanging out that window.)

Maybe that $50.000 was ment for upgraded communications to wake these brave VOLUNTEERS in the middle of the night to come to your house (again g-d forbid).

    I could go on & on but I won’t.

Before you say I voted against the Fire department Budget & saved lakewood $50.000 just think maybe all I did was put someone in danger that was coming to save me.

  2. i agree with #1 and let me say this, that money was not taken away from the paid firefighters part of the budget, that money was taken away from the VOLUNTEERS who risk their lives for no pay at all, all the couple #1 spoke of did was shortcharge the only fiscally responsible entity in town, the township committee said themselves they wish all the departments in town were as fiscally sound as the fire department, so they should be ashamed not proud of what their probably uninformed vote did, volunteerism is on the decline and the lack of support from the public is not encouraging to these selfless unpaid heroes, i voted yes because i am proud to support the Lakewood Fire Department in getting the equipment, vehicles and facilities they need to better protect life and property in our town

  3. Well said Friend, The people of Lakewood will some day miss these fine Volunteers when they are replaced with a paid department. I just hope that time is off in the distant future The tax money they save us as volunteers is far greater than we will ever know.

Keep up the good work Lakewood firefighters and please stay safe.

  4. TO #1 & 2

If the FD is in need of buying new equipment, they would have enough money for it with no issue. The budget that they have is several million of dollars (if I’m not mistaken around 3). If they would buy new equipment instead of renovating a different fire house each year they would be to have more then enough modern equipment.

I would love to know exactly where all that money is going, as they aren’t allowed to keep surplus money from year to year so it needs to be spent!!

I think the volunteers do a wonderful job and greatly appreciate what they do, I have nothing against them. The question is about the people in charge of the budget.

  5. please don’t call the f.d. when you leave a pot on the flame or have electrical problems, cause I’ll tell them NOT to respond to your house!

What you call “Joyriding around town” I call getting to know the roads and learning where I can and where I can not fit our trucks. If you have noticed the streets are getting smaller due to overpopulation. If i can not get my truck down the street..guess what?? I will be parking that truck on the side of the road and have to walk in all my equipment to Your House. This takes time. If you build more houses I have to come out to make a plan of attack in the case of a fire. If you have noticed the trucks are getting bigger but the roads are getting smaller and more packed with vehicles. If you are parked in a place you are not supposed to be, well then you prevent me from doing my job..If you havent noticed there are some new firefighters in this town, and after a while, what you call joyriding is what we call Driver Training. Everyone has to know the streets we ride on. They are tight, packed with your cars and dangerous for us to maneauver. That is why we do what we do..by the way have u noticed we train in all types of weather..prob not cuz all you do is complain that we are joyriding, but that is ok..I will come to your fire but you better believe that when I am done I will remember the address.
Thanks for complaining about your volunteers..I know how much you appreciate us now..I will remember.

  7. oh and going to other towns…we also respond outside of town to help other fire companies..when we go “show off and party” maybe you should come..its celebrating new equipment that the town we are at has gotten..we don’t do that in Lakewood anymore cuz frankly no one here cares about the fire dept enough to help us out..but you all want us at the schools and other activities…but we do not complain, do we…NO
