PHOTOS & VIDEO: Heavy Downpour Causes Flooding; Disaster For Some, Activity For Others

flooding lawrence picPHOTOS & VIDEO: The heavy downpour has caused severe damage to stores and residences, TLS has learned. Several store-owners and homeowners have reported heavy flooding in their shops and homes as a result of the heavy downpour. Some however, found the heavily flooded streets quite

amusing, as children in the Squankum area can be seen biking and swimming in the knee-deep waters.

Motorists should avoid the area if possible.

Although it looks like fun, driving and playing in such deep standing water can be extremely dangerous! Just like swimming in a pool without an adult supervising, children should NOT be biking/playing in the high water.

Is this not a high water table area? Wetlands are nearby, with a small stream, mostly underground and invisible, but making its presence known when it rains so much.
With all of those basements, and high density housing, just where is this water supposed to go? Yep, on top of the roads and concrete surfaces.

how do you know there was no adult supervising? just cause there is none on the video? obviously the adult was there taking a video.
dont you think that is a bit short sighted? dont be so quick to jump on others and condemn.

Oh come on know ! Do you think another child would make a video like this without taking part in it. The adult should be found and people should be warned never to let this person supervise your child. What would the “adult” have done if that child got swept away. We see rescues on television of people just “having a little fun” all the time and not always with good results. Same on the person that took this video!

No swimming allowed in the nine days!
I guess i live in a well drained area. There was no flooding where I live. I didn’t even realize it rained so much.
