Approximately 2,000 school children and Bachruim gathered in Lakewood to hear Divrei Chizuk with regards to technology.
The event took place at the Lakewood High School, and was attended by Rabbonim from around Lakewood, as well as by Hagaon Rav Binyomin Finkel Shlita.
The attendees also received a Bracha from Reb Meilich Biderman and others.
When contacted by TLS, organizers said the Asifa was specifically held ahead of the Summer break, when Nisyonos of technology are higher than during the Zman.
The event ended with singing and dancing to ‘Amar Reb Akiva…Ashreichem Yisroel’.

What do you expect the child to think when he knows that his father or mother are running their business using technology? That his grocery order from the local frum supermarket was done on a computer? The yeshiva office is running on technology? Most of these children will likely one day be sitting at a computer as a way to bring home parnassah to their families. Can you honestly bash technology across the board under these circumstances? Are you trying to save the few who will remain in the Bais medrash for life at the expense of the majority who will need to come to terms with it?

Why isn’t there an Asifa for a bigger problem that is unfortunately way more rampant… Smoking. Smoking kills the person and second hand smoke is worse. Smoking is an Issur MinHatorah.
Because nobody is sponsoring that type of Asifa

The shorosh of alot of the techonology yetzer hara is the level of extravagance and living up to yenim that has prevailed our society. Its the rate race to have the latest thing. Yes thats what leads to the need to have the latest ipad, iphone,. tesla car etc. All these asifas are a waste of time unless you address the route cause. Sure internet itself is a nisyon. But it’s easily addressed if you don’t need to always have the latest thing to fit in.
Of course, there are other issues that come from the crazy lakewood rat race to be in style. But as it pertains to technology, unless you address the middah behind it , this is all a waste of time.
Can we change the name to “Asifa ABOUT technology” and not “Asifa AGAINST Technology”?
Lets be real, these kids parents are using technology and they will use it one day as well. Can we educate children how to use tech safely?
And safely might include that at their age there is more risk than gain to using tech.
