PHOTOS: Alert passerby, quick response by LFD, save Shul from going up in flames; Second Shul fire in 24 hours

An alert passerby, and the quick response of the Lakewood Fire Department, helped prevent a Shul from going up in flames today.

Shortly before 2 PM this afternoon, a passerby noticed a mulch fire that was catching on to the Shul on Flannery Drive, and immediately phoned police.

The Lakewood Fire Department managed to get there within minutes, and extinguish the fire – which had already burned some of the Shul’s siding.

“A few minutes later, and this building could have been flames,” a neighbor told TLS.

Last night, a fire broke out in the Birditchev Shul, and was also thankfully contained quickly.

  1. Another job very well done though the joint effort of both the passerby who was in the right place and the right time, and the members of the LFD! You’re all amazing!

  2. 2 shuls catch fire within 24 hours of each other, right after a weekend of anti Semitic events in town, and you are asking ‘any known cause’?
