PHOTOS: Recently-elected U.S. Senator and former Newark Mayor Cory Booker was in Lakewood today for a brief visit.
After being honored as the keynote speaker during last year’s SCHI dinner, the then-Mayor said he would return to Lakewood as Senator to visit the school. And so he did.
The Senator arrived at the School for Children with Hidden Intelligence shortly before 3 PM, and was given a tour of the premises by the school’s founder Rabbi Eisman, and Executive Director Captain Mark Segal.
During the tour, the Senator met with and laughed with many of the children from the various classrooms, and even posed for photos with them.
Following the tour, the Senator was welcomed to the conference room, where he enjoyed some light refreshments with the school’s executives.
Prior to his departure from Lakewood, Booker enjoyed some fresh kosher pizza at Pizza Plus.

nice seeing you captain segal
Whether or not you agree with his politics one thing is certain: He truly is an amicable and friendly guy. I would definitely drink some Manischewitz with him.
Does this school serve the general population of special needs students?
Met him today. He seems like such a mench

here is a what the SCHI school is [taken from their website]
The School for Children with Hidden Intelligence (SCHI) is a state approved, private school that specifically educates multiply handicapped, underprivileged children with special needs from School for children with hidden intelligence the Tri-State Metropolitan area. Our aim is to try and alleviate the suffering of the most vulnerable members of our community and offer services to help them grow.
What’s the secret to SCHI’s success? It is obvious from the happy tunes heard emanating from the brightly decorated classrooms. It is apparent from the remarkable structure and efficiency which characterizes the high standards of education here at SCHI. It is felt throughout the growing numbers of satisfied parents & community members. We offer services to the children with hidden intelligence.
At SCHI every child is a hero! Every ounce of determination is an outstanding Building of SCHI accomplishment. Every show of perseverance, any effort and every small footstep taken toward independence is an inspiration.
Without question, SCHI’s reason for success, its most valuable resource, its most priceless treasure…is its children; each and every one of them.

SCHI takes any child who qualifies, I’m pretty sure that only children who can’t be properly treated in the public school system can go there.
#2, Which “politic” of Booker do you question any more than that of any other politician. I suspect you are conditioned on how to react, which is not fair to any human being.
#5, You didnt answer the question. Dont feel embarrassed. This fantastic school, from what I understand, serves the needs of the Jewish community. A Catholic school serves that community, and there are more and more muslim day schools serving their communities. And if someone does not like that fact, too bad.

my wife works in SCHI & they have students that are not yidden, however it is a small percentage of the entire school
You happen to not be correct #7
SCHI has and has had children of all races and religions.
SCHI accepts students who apply and are placed there by their Board of Ed, regardless of religious affiliation. Due to the fact that Lakewood has a large Jewish population with parents who advocate to have their child placed in SCHI, the majority of the children are, in fact, Jewish. However, there are students of other religious backgrounds as well.
Thank you for your answers!
