Senate President Steve Sweeney issued the following statement today in support of workers at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s major airports:
“The idea of a fair wage for an honest day’s work is a bedrock principal of our economy,” said Senator Sweeney. “I applaud the members of SEIU 32BJ for taking steps to raise awareness about wages and to highlight the need for a safe working environment.”
On Thursday, hundreds of workers at airports across the country, including those at Newark Liberty International Airport, participated in a 24 hour day of action to bring attention to their working conditions.
“The critical mobility provided by air travel, in an era of increased security, is made possible only by the dedicated work of these individuals. They deserve compensation and treatment worthy of the essential services they provide,” added the Senate President.
