The Lakewood Fire Department had a busy night last night, responding to two separate fires just hours apart.
Earlier Tuesday evening, LFD crews battled a two-alarm structure fire, working for several hours before finally clearing the scene around 1:15 AM.
Then, at approximately 2:30 AM, firefighters were dispatched to what initially appeared to be a routine water flow fire alarm at a one-story woodworking business on Airport Road.
Upon arrival, units found an activated sprinkler head. Thanks to the sprinkler system, the fire was kept under control and the building was saved from what could have been a devastating loss.
“There is no question that the fire sprinklers prevented a serious loss for the business,” Fire Chief Jon Yahr tells TLS. “The fire just hours earlier in Lakewood demonstrated what a fire can do in an unsprinklered building. Homes and businesses which aren’t equipped with fire sprinklers should consider installing them. Fire sprinklers save lives and property.”
Firefighters quickly extinguished the remaining flames, preventing major damage to the property and its contents.
Both fires are currently under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Kudos to Lakewood’s Bravest!
What a crazy night! Thank you to the LFD for being there no matter the weather or time of day!
