As reported this morning on TLS Status, a sinkhole has opened on Prosect Street today, prompting police to shut down a portion of the road.
The sinkhole developed on Prospect Street near Majestic Way, and has resulted in vehicle damage.
This is the second sinkhole that developed in the area in under 12 hours.
Expect delays for several hours for the repairs.
The two sinkhole aren’t in the same area, they are about six miles from each other.
It would appear that utility installation is an afterthought when new developments are built. I can’t count how many times a road has been repaved then portions of it dug up for utility placement. Those patches often fail creating potholes. It also seems that one particular intersection has been a concern for many years now. That being the intersection of Pine St & Rte 9. If you are traveling west on Pine St (which becomes James St) to cross Rte 9 the right lane is a series of multiple patches. Why hasn’t that been addressed? There are too many instances where state, county & township have conflicts as to who is responsible for road maintenance. In this particular case it seems to me that the Lakewood township could stick their neck out and repair that very small area. I’m sure no gov’t entity would object. This is just one example of our Lakewood Twp committee shrugging their shoulders saying to it’s residents, “tough luck, deal with it”. After all, they don’t have to use that road.
