PHOTO: Is Manchester Township the new alternative?

A Minyan Shachris was held today in Manchester Township, said to be the first such Minyan in the Ocean County Township.

With even Toms River and Jackson quickly becoming unaffordable for young families, some are beginning to look at Manchester Township as the new alternative.

In recent months particularly, the demand for housing in and around Lakewood has skyrocketed, pushing prices through the roof. Homes are barely on the market for days before being snatched up, and in some cases setting off bidding wars.

At approximately 82 square miles, Manchester is larger than Lakewood and Toms River combined, and will likely take many years before it sees any shortage of housing.

  1. It is nice that the area is expanding but here is the problem in my humble opinion. Every person and family moving out to Manchester, Toms River and Jackson is still leaning heavily on the Lakewood resources and infrastructure. The traffic and congestion on the roads to and fro and the Lakewood roads during the rush hours is already unbearable and it is getting worse. Everyone drives in for schools, childcare, shopping and more. This will not help us until these towns have their own schools and resources. Towns need to open up a half hour from Lakewood. Not a 10 minute drive. Anyone hear that??

  2. Since most of the schools are on Oak street it’s faster to drive to Oak St. from Toms river and Manchester Highway 70 and New Hampshire, then coming to Oak Street from anywhere else in Lakewood.

  3. Lakewoid twp and the Mosdos will eventually face severe financial stress from this. At some point ,half the users of Lakewood infrastructure and Mosdos will not be paying any taxes to Lakewood. Lakewood will need police ,fire ,sidewalks, road widening etc etc for tens of thousands of commuters who pay no taxes . Mosdos get no grants for out of district kids. It will eventually be a financial disaster unless schools ,shuls and stores open up in those townships and those families just stay there .

  4. We used to joke abt 15 yrs ago when the Coop (NPGS) opened a location in Jackson that it’s a good thing we have real estate in Cherry Hill, cuz Lakewood is getting closer! Glad to hear other Frum pioneers are opening other communities in Little NJ counties!
    Much Hatzlacha!!

  5. just checked zillow.com, the houses that I clicked on (not knowing which neighborhoods are frum) are upwards of 350K for a 3 bedroom house.
that’s not cheap! there are some two bedroom houses for around 300k but those are really not helpful for a young frum family.
