An alleged thief must have forgotten about the ‘home’ button on the GPS unit when he peddled it to several Lakewood residents.
However, an LCSW member, one of several people the alleged thief attempted to sell the unit to at a local gas station, didn’t.
After checking the ‘home’ location and it coming back to a Lakewood residence, the LCSW member phoned police to notify them of the suspicious activity of the man who said he was from Howell.
Officer Brandon Burkhardt responded to the gas station moments later, and located 36 year-old Keith Brown of Howell, in the parking lot.
“Brown denied trying to sell a GPS despite the fact that Officer Burkhardt observed the device in his sweatshirt pocket,” Detective Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith says. “In addition, the charging cord for the unit was hanging out of the same pocket.”
While on scene, it was determined that Keith Brown had an active $500 arrest warrant out of Neptune, NJ. He was placed under arrest without incident.
“At this time, we are in the process of trying to identify the owner of the GPS unit,” Staffordsmith says.
