Ocean County at the request of the Lakewood Township is trying to improve the traffic flow at the intersection of New Hampshire Ave. and Oak Street.
“They will be adding a dedicated turning lane so we go from one lane to two lanes in each direction, and upgrades on the signal timing to include left turn arrows,” officials say.
The upgrades are expected to be completed today.
Great idea thsnks. Also chestnut and new Hampshire needs similar upgrades.
this was a huge help, thank you!
This is nice but I see the plans call for Left and Straight to share a lane crossing over New Hampshire. Makes more sense for straight and right to be in one lane. That’s how everyone does it when someone is turning left and it seems to work. Also you could let the left turn people have a separate longer light
The straight lane combined with the left is pure stupidity. County Line at Somerset used to be like that. Hope Chapel at New Central is still like that and it’s ridiculous. It’s as if the the engineers WANT to cause problems.
Finally I hope everyone follows directions and pays attention to the signals so everyone’s journey through this intersection is finally safe and not a Russian roulette like it was . Thank you to all envolved for finally trying to make this intersection safer for everyone.
I just went through this intersection today at 3:20 was going straight across to Oak Street car came around me and another driver from the turning lane which clearly stated turn lane only and speed past both of us onto Oak Street people follow directions turn lane only means turn left it doesn’t mean go straight how can this light possible work when people do not know how to follow directions stop making up your own rules if you don’t know how to read get off the road you should not be driving we are all trying to stay safe stop putting all our lives in danger because you are impatient and want to go by your own rules.
