Chaverim of Central Jersey came to the rescue this afternoon after Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles’ dog mistakenly locked itself inside a vehicle.
“I want to give a heartfelt thanks to Chaverim,” Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles told TLS. “My daughter’s dog Luna managed to lock herself in the car while we were getting ready to load my grandson for their trip home. They showed up within 5 minutes of the call and had her out in seconds.”
The Mayor added, “Just one of the many reasons I feel so blessed to call Lakewood home.”

The Mayor went on further to say that: “They say that dog is Man’s best friend, but in this instance, chaverim, which means “friends” in Hebrew, turned out to be a dog’s best friend.”
The Mayor added that: “There is also another saying: ‘What goes around, comes around.’ This adage is typically used in a negative connotation. But today, we were able to see this adage being applied in a positive fashion. We were able to see how the friendship of dog to man came around, and was reciprocated in kind with an act of friendship of Man towards dog.”
When asked if she became frightened when she accidentally locked herself inside the car, Luna told reporters on Thursday: “No, just the opposite. With all the carjackings going on around town, I felt at ease knowing that any carjacker who would approach the car would see the locked doors and would simply walk away.”
“Moral of the story,” Luna added, “keep the car doors locked at all times, but make sure you’ve got Chaverim’s telephone number with you.”
