Mayor John Ducey and the Township Council honored Brick Township Police Chief James Riccio at the January 24 Council meeting. Chief Riccio is retiring on January 31 after more than thirty-six years with the BTPD including the last seven as Chief.

Chief Riccio joined the BTPD in August 1986. During the past thirty-six years, James Riccio has had a distinguished career during which he has served in virtually every role in the BTPD. His professionalism, expertise and dedication to being the best law enforcement professional he could be helped him climb the ranks to the position of Deputy Chief in May 2011 and ultimately led to his being appointed Brick Township’s third Chief of Police in December 2015.

During his time as Chief, he oversaw and spearheaded several initiatives aimed at making our community safer including the innovative Blue HOPE program, the creation of dedicated patrol districts, the creation of the Neighborhood Watch Program and efforts to help keep our schools safe. He also guided the BTPD through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mayor Ducey proclaimed January 31, 2023 as Chief James Riccio Day in Brick Township in honor and appreciation of his dedicated service to our community.
