The Fire Department’s annual dinner looks nice in the photos. But when I asked a Fire Dept. official what they served at the dinner, he gave me a surprised look and told me: “We’re firemen, what do you think we served at the dinner!? Smoked fish and blazing, spicy hot dogs topped with plenty of burnt, charred onions and fiery hot pepper sauce!”
Then he told me that this year’s menu was a “watered-down version” of what they typically serve, and that normally the guests walk away from the dinner with their “tongues on fire and their palates burnt to the crisp”.
“But no need to worry,” he told me, “we always have plenty of fire hoses on hand, so the guests can simply insert the hoses in their smoke-filled mouths and cool off their flaming palates in an instant.”
