A Lakewood resident created and submitted the following petition.
“The NJ MVC (Dmv) recently changed their system in their agencies statewide. The result is that wait times OFTEN exceed 5 hours! The DMV is well aware of the issue but since they have spent so much money on this new system they don’t want to shut it down as it would look bad for the individuals on the ladder who implemented it. This is factual and was admitted as such by officials in Trenton who were not involved in this fiasco. Driving schools, car dealerships and the every day customer are suffering tremendously, all because a few people in charge are too stubborn to care. Businesses and individuals are losing time and money. Enough is enough. If you can’t handle the workload, hire more employees, don’t take it out in the citizens of New Jersey!
if this means firing some people then so be it. Raising prices IF the services improve, so be it. But taxing us and the making us wait 6 hours because of Dmv incompetence and lack of basic human compassion is ridiculous. Change, BIG CHANGE, is needed in the Nj mvc ranks. This can not be allowed to go on.”
From my recent experience at the DMV in Freehold -if you need to go you will need to take a day off.Bring lunch and supper to.No im not excatrating i was there from 1245ish till 400
I was there yesterday and waited 4 and half hours and at 4:30 they close and who ever wasn’t helped was kick out
I was at the DMV in Lakewood 2 years ago and waited about an hour or less. Did this change take place since then? I thought they had improved the wait times. How can they have made it any worse? That is terrible!!
to:No. 1
“excatratring” you mean exaggerating?
they should make rich roberts the head of the dmv
I went the Freehold DM mid February got there 9:15 took 2 hours for a licensee . one of the employees told me that you got to be there at about 7:00 am if you don’t want to wait inside all day
i literally felt as if i live in a 3rd world country…had to wait hours just to speak to someone !
The DMV has an issue it needs to implement to get Federal approval for the REAL ID Act which would allow NJ residents to use their drivers license as ID in airports and federal buildings starting October of this year. NJ is behind the curve on this (most states implemented the changes between 2003-2008) this computer update is one of the changes required (one DMV official told me there were 3 or so and they were unrolling them one at a time). I am not sure why NJ couldn’t contract the vendor for any of the over 45 states who successfully implemented the require federal changes and use them, but then we wouldn’t be a corrupt state and an efficient one. If NJ doesn’t make these changes you can not use your drivers license to enter a federal building, airports for travel and on passport applications for your kids. There are some locations in NJ that are already taking appointments for REAL ID drivers licenses but none near us (and yes they have super long wait times).
