Want to move out of the Unites States and come on over to New Jersey? That’s what one Sewell, NJ, resident had in mind when he filed a petition with the White House – similar to petitions filed on behalf of other States in the wake of Obama’s re-election.
The petition, “Peacefully grant the State of New Jersey to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government“, garnered over 7,000 votes in 2 days, and needs about 18,000 more votes to be eligible for a response from the White House.
Petitions were alos filed on bhalf of over a dozen other States including: Florida, New York, Oregon, North Carolina, Georgia, Texas and others. The petition for Texas has gathered over 50,000 signatures.
In order for a petition to be eligible for a response, it must gather 25,000 signatures in 30 days. TLS (Tip: Simone).

The White House website explains of the review process for petitions that get 25,000 signatures in a 30 day period: “If a petition meets the signature threshold, it will be reviewed by the Administration and we will issue a response.”
Its a bad idea
Lakewood alone can produce 25,000 signatures.
The White House? Congress is the correct address for such petition.
We tried secession in 1861 and Lincoln asked Congress to raise an army to invade some of our sovereign states.
Defending the invasion Sen. (later President) Johnson asked in the Senate, “If the doctrine of Secession is to be carried out upon the mere whim of a state… may not other states combine and eject a state from the Union?”

The White House declined to comment on a similar petition concerning the Rubashkin issue – that got way more than 25,000…
