    • I don’t know about where you come from, but where I am from it is a completely normal way to phrase it.
Whether you are talking about Reb Avrohom Yehoshua, Reb Eli Ber, R’ Matisyohu, R’ Shlomo etc. and it can be spelled out as Reb or just abbreviated as R’.

In my circles it is a term of endearment and respect when they refer to an Adam Godol as R’.
It comes across as cold or contrived when you call someone HaRav or HaRav Hagaon etc.

  1. 1) Reb Aharon Schechter זצ”ל
    2) Reb Chaim Epstein זצ”ל
    3) Reb Aharon Leib Shteinman זצ”ל
    4) Reb Ahron Kotler זצ”ל
    5) Reb Chaim Kanievsky זצ”ל
