Petira of Mrs. Shoshana Lefkowitz A”H

We regret to inform you of the Petirah of Mrs. Shoshana Lefkowitz (Hertzberg) A”H. She was niftar early this morning at 80 years old.

Mrs. Lefkowitz was born in Lille, France at the start of WWII and escaped through Switzerland with her parents and siblings. She arrived in America in 1947.

She was the wife of the well known Baal Chesed and initiator and supporter of a myriad of Chesed and Tzedaka organizations, Reb Yisroel Lefkowitz Zatzal. He preceded his wife’s petira in 2011. They were married for 54 years. Together, they lived in Boro Park, Brooklyn.

She was known in her own right to all Chesed and Assistance organization personalities and was an open heart and ear to all walks of life who walked through her door. She had a Lev Tov and Ayin Tov for anyone she encountered, that was simply incomparable.

She presided over a prestigious and welcoming household for over 60 years that welcomed Gedolim & Roshei Yeshiva, including such luminaries from yesteryear; Reb Moshe Feinstien, Reb Yaakov Kamenetsky, Reb Gedalya Shorr and many others. For 4 decades, YBLC, Reb Baruch Mordechai Ezrachi Shlita, stayed at the Lefkowitz home during his visits from Eretz Yisroel.

Her children are:

Mrs. Tzippy Paneth (Married to noted Baal Chesed and confidant of many Rabbanim, Reb Chezky Paneth)
Reb Avrohom Lefkowitz Shlita, Rosh Kollel and Rav of Kollel Bnei Torah in Lakewood (Married to Mrs. Esther Lefkowitz)
Reb Shimon Lefkowitz, Noted Baal Chesed and Askan in Brooklyn (Married to Mrs. Chani Lefkowitz)
Mrs. Rochella Scherman (Married to well known Lakewood Baal Chesed and Askan, Reb Avrohom Scherman)
Reb Dovid Lefkowitz, of Baltimore, Teacher in Bnos Yisroel of Baltimore and Rabbi of Kiruv Network Organization, “Mesora” in Washington DC (Married to Mrs. Sarala Lefkowitz).

She leaves behind many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of a beautiful family that follows in Darchei Hashem, a life seeped in unwavering Emuna and Bitachon, and a home of Torah, Avodah, & Gemillas Chassadim. May she be a Meilitz Yosher for her family and all of Klal Yisroel.

The Levaya will take place today, Sunday, at Shomrei Hadas in Brooklyn at 1:00pm. The aron will be flown to Eretz Yisroel and will depart from JFK at 6:30pm. Shiva will be at 1689 48th St. Brooklyn, NY, beginning Tuesday afternoon.
