Permit From O.C. Fire Marshal’s Office Required For All Lag Ba’omer Bonfires

[PERMIT APPLICATION] The Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office is asking the Lakewood Community that if they are planning to have a Lag Baomer fire on Wednesday May 9 or Thursday May 10, 2012 to please follow the information below, submitted by their office:

 They must submit a permit application with a $42.00 fee (check or money order) to our Office by 12:00 PM on Monday May 7, 2012 so that our staff can visit the sites prior to the fires commencing, to make sure they meet all of the bonfire requirements and make notice to the proper agencies (Lakewood Police and Fire Depts.). We are providing an Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office Permit application and Bonfire Regulations in the local newspapers for your convenience. They can be dropped off at our Office at Ocean County Park 659 Ocean Ave Lakewood Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.

 You must also contact the NJ Forest Fire Service for a Burn Permit 609-726-9010.

 We are asking that you follow the bonfire regulations and set up a 10’ – 15’ safety area around the bonfire (depending on the bonfire size) for protection of the attendees to watch the fire safely.

 You must use clean wood, use no flammable liquids to start the fire, have a garden hose with a good water source to be able to extinguish and manage the fire.

 Do not start the fire until a Fire Marshal has inspected your site and given approval to light it.

 Anyone who does not have an approved Permit will have their fire extinguished and can be subject to penalties for the extinguishment.

As of this writing, the ban on all campfires and open fires such as Chimineas, grills, open fire pits, etc. has been lifted by the NJ DEP/NJ Forest Fire Service due the rainfall over this past weekend (April 21 & 22). However, if no more rain falls between now and the time of Lag Baomer, certain restrictions or a ban could be placed in effect once again. Due to this possibility please plan your event accordingly in case you cannot have a fire. The Office of the Ocean County Fire Marshal is in close contact with the NJ DEP/NJ Forest Fire Service to monitor the situation, as it gets closer to the Lag Baomer dates.

If anyone has any questions please call our Office at 732-370-7360 Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.

  1. and why do NONE of these apply to the people living in the woods off of Cedar Bridge ave. who pay nothing, start Stinky, large fires – who knows what they r burning – pollute the air and cause a disaster-waiting-to-happen… I smell a double standard….

  2. To: arrrrrr!!!

Because every time anyone tries to lift a finger, the blleding heart liberals come out of the woodwork and start raising all hell. They make people like you start thinking “hmmm, maybe we DO have to be nicer to the homeless.” And then the elected officials are afraid that people like you won’t reelect them again. So therefore they will say and do nothing about the homeless, because of people like you.

If people would start thinking with their heads instead of their emotions, things would be much better.

  3. HMMMMMM what about lakewood constantly smelling from fires coming from tent city???? do they have permits?? are they following fire regulations??? are their fires extinguished?? whats goin on in lakewood???? this is an insanity……

  4. i think the biggest differance is they have there fires to stay alive ,,, matter of needing the fire to live , or doing it for fun. not that i think its right , tent city needs to be destroyed
