thanks for the heads up about 528 being shut down

see the problem here is that there arent that many lights on that busy road and no one is ever cautious to the pedestrians that are trying to cross the road. we have to do better on the roads so things like this do NOT become more frequent.

He was 100 feet east of the traffic light.
Note to all:
Please only cross at the traffic light! Especially on roads that are dark

If they installed anymore traffic lights on cedar bridge ave, it’ll become a parking lot

People cross there all the time. I’ve seen many near accidents and MANY Accidents. I would recommend a traffic light, or for that matter 2 lights, one at mlk and one at Arlington, both synchronized. I watch that intersection all day.
I don’t know if the powers that be look at the Lakewood scoop, but it would be nice to see a response from one of our elected officials.

Then you might as well rename it The Long Island Expressway comes to Lakewood

There already is a traffic light at MLK and Cedarbridge.

Cedar Bridge is a county road (CR528). Therefore, the only entity that can do anything about the lights are the Freeholders with input from their engineers.

Hi

Terribly sorry for the family. During the investigation now I witnessed no less than 3 people crossing in complete dark clothing and not by the crosswalk. I am not convinced an extra light would help if people don’t cross by the lights that are already there… Prayers to the victim and his family.

Does no one know that there is a traffic light at MLK? …and that this accident (and many others) happened within a hundred feet from this light?
Traffic lights and more street lights are a good idea. But common sense should always play a roll. Cross at the light people! Drivers, elected officials, etc, are not at fault if you put your own life in danger. Why put your life at risk if you can cross safely via a well lit crosswalk at the traffic light?

This is my uncle who is now no longer with us…. The driver fled the scene of the crime. Someone plowed him down and killed him. This person hit a man and left him to die in the road with HORRIFIC injuries. If anyone saw or has any information regarding this accident, please contact authorities!

And to those leaving comments that aren’t sympathetic, this may not affect your life, but there are people mourning the loss of a loved one now. So maybe you can take that into consideration instead of the inconvenience it caused/could cause you and your life.

Simple Simon, there is a traffic light at mlk. Had this person crossed the street by the light and not down the road, this probably wouldn’t have happened.

I have complained of that street many times. aside pedestrians, there are many accidents with cars as well. It needs more street lights and turning lanes a wider median or maybe a barrier.

Hmmm...

We all have become too used to letting electronics control our lives. The real culprit here is the fact that we no longer use our senses any more. By that i mean both drivers and pedestrians dont pay attention to themselves and their surroundings and almost no one utlizes their common sense anymore. The answer is not more and more traffic lights its being more conscioencious of others. Pay attention when your driving and pay attention when your crpssing the street. Cant place blame on anyone here, if the guy was driving too fast he was doing it knowingly and adding more lights wouldve made them in even more of a rush. If the person crossing the street tried to in a manner that placed himself in danger traffic lights wouldnt of saved him there either….its a shame really

they can’t put more stop lights there. there is already one 100 feet away. however, that area needs more street light to light it up at night.

BR;

I was one of the previous commentators regarding the lights etc. You are 100% correct that the family is terribly hurting news regardless of lights etc. Now during this hard time we should be praying and trying to assist in any way possible. I apologize for myself and on behalf of the others on this blog.

May he rest in peace and may God be with you during this difficult time.

God bless you.

What a tragedy to a life lost so young. Peace upon his soul

Actually, the driver remained at the scene of the accident, cooperated with authorities during the investigation and currently has not been charged. While I’m terribly sorry for your loss, I think everyone who drives and walks in lakewood should be more careful. If you cross a roadway especially a busy roadway illegally things like this can happen. It’s unfortunate bUT drivers must stop for pedestrians in crosswalks not any where the pedestrians decide to cross.

It would help if pedestrians would wear reflectors. I don’t see why every wawa, 7-11 & gas station don’t have some type of displays of them near the register. It costs pennies and saves lives.

My kids who are EMTs were on their way home from work when they found your uncle . They tried to help him by giving him cpr and tending to him before the EMS arrived. He was very serious injured and they were praying for him as well as I was . I am so sorry for the lost of your uncle. Our deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Ok

Sorry for your loss regardless of cause or circumstance this is a tragedy. There must be another light at the shopping malls opposite each other – it’s important for turning vehicles and the many pedestrians. It doesn’t matter that there is already a light at Martin Luther – this is not sufficient for the busy shopping area just up the road!

The Township keeps blaming JCP&L when it comes to street lights, however they may only be right when they made a contract with JCPL to put them up, I have been calling the Township (mayors office) for almost two years regarding a different dark area and keep getting the runaround.

the only two solutions that will definitively address the issue ar 1) jaywalking enforcement on that stretch of cedar bridge to condition people to cross legaly or 2) to to install a fence or barrier on the curb on both sides of cedar bridge to physicaly prevent illegal crossings.

My Take

I drove down Cedarbridge one night and while waiting behind a row of cars for the traffic to start moving after the light turned green, a dark man dressed in dark clothing crossed right in front of my car just as I was going to start driving. I almost didn’t see him. People should cross only where there is a cross walk, not in the middle of the road and they should wear reflectors.

I do send my apologies. We were originally given incorrect information regarding the driver. She did not leave, and I feel for her during this time as well! It’s a tragedy for everyone involved. However, it was an accident and unfortunately my uncle wasn’t crossing at the crosswalk either. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers!
