A pedestrian has died after being struck by two vehicles on Route 9 in Toms River, just south of Lakewood, police said this morning.
At about 6 PM last night, Police and EMS units responded to the intersection of Route 9 and Stevens Road for a pedestrian that had been struck by a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, they located Kimberly Vanpelt, 44 of Neptune City, incapacitated in the roadway. Lifesaving attempts failed and she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The initial investigation determined that Ms. Van Pelt was crossing Route 9 in an easterly direction when she was struck by a southbound vehicle. As a result of the impact, Vanpelt landed in the northbound lane where she was struck by a second vehicle.
The crash is being investigated by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Robert Westfall, Ocean County Prosecutors Office, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office.

I guess this tragedy will be the inception of a new bumper sticker: “Pray for me, I walk in Toms River”.
Hey Ben bavis says: a person just died in a horrific accident. Show some compassion. What if it was a family member of yours. Would you appreciate your comment. I don’t think so. Prayers to her family. May she rest in peace.
