  1. Heavy gunfire? There were four loud shots in rapid succession. Not exactly heavy fire. Now last night at 3am there were at least six shots that I heard coming from MLK. That’s heavy fire. “So much for the “quality of life enforcement zone!”.

  2. This town is getting scary but the one thing that gives me comfort is the more kedush the more tumah that’s what I’ve been taught is it wrong?

  3. The news in the TLS is getting scarier everyday. 🙁

Any other kind of description on the car? Two door? Hatchback? Any injuries? This definitely sounds gang related if the person inside was already prepared to fire back so quickly.

  4. I actually feel like I’m back in good ‘ole Lakewood of 15 years ago. It was that ppl ran from police. And shootings occured quite frequently as well.

  5. People build million dollar houses in the worst neighborhoods possible and then they complain. I do not know of one Martin Luther King drive, street or ave thats in a good neighborhood. Just because you build these houses there, doesnt automatically turn it into a good area.

  6. To #3:

As a lifetime Lakewood resident, I can tell you that this town is a lot LESS scarier today than it used to be. It’s not getting scary, it’s been steadily getting safer. Of course I’m just referencing violent crime, not driving habits, etc.

  7. What’s with this mantra of million dollar homes?? Most of the houses were bought in the $400k range or below.

I assume it’s the Tax Assessor that keeps posting the million dollar number!

  8. I have one question maybe i’m missing something, was the suv involved a robotic vehicle? how can a vehicle be involved in a shooting? the article only speaks of vehicles being involved as of this time do we have any additional information weather any people are involved we will need that in order to press charges, even if an suv can shoot i doubt we can charge an suv with a crime or can we? please clarify

  9. MLK is much better today then 10, 15, 20 years ago. I agree with #6, #7, and #8… Why would anyone build a home on MLK and not expect this? DO your research before building and/or moving into homes in any neighborhood!

  10. So you think the average person who lives in those apartments doesn’t mind drive-bys?? Your point is that we should write-off that area to the gangs! Why? I’m sure the average occupant of those apartments would rather the gangs be kicked out also!

    Only criminals don’t mind criminals.

  11. #15, nobody is saying that the people in the neighborhood dont mind drive by shootings. All thats being said is that it should not be unexpected in that neighborhood and if you build a house for yourself there, be prepared for it. There was recently a story about graffiti on peoples houses in a certain area thats heavy with gangs. If you build houses in the worst neighborhoods, be prepared for crime.

  12. Ya know I once heard from a person addicted to drugs that “When you ned to buy more drugs, go to the quality of life zones” Get them out of lakewood!

  13. So we close down all the eye sore apartment complexes, and then what have some hardworking families homeless .Please don’t judge all of us because of a few bad apples. We all deserve to live in peace peace and not worry about bullets flying through our windows. What you call an eye sore we call home.

  14. Not that I’m defending what happened because I am not, but where do you put these people. Every town has the same issues. Every local town has the same problems. Yes it is not something that every town should experience but I agree with #8, #16, & #14. This town is safer than it has been in recent years. You have to do your Homework when you decide to move here. It is a very diverse town, lots going on here. You have to know where you are going & what you are doing..Don’t just move in and say “I heard it was a safe place to live”. I got news for you, there are safe places in Lakewood..You have to just look. Lakewood overall is a safe town..I have lived here for 35 of my 42 yrs alive and I love this town…Yes people may say I am crazy..but who cares. I moved from a northern town, went to school here, serve my my community here and volunteer here as well. Lakewood is where I call home. Demanding people moved out is just ludicrous, where do you move them? Just because you know the person that “owns the building” and want him to better screen his residents doesn’t mean they are not good working people..just some bad apples in the bunch makes you think everyone there is bad..you have a lot to learn about Lakewood.
