[COMMUNICATED] In anticipation of their upcoming Career Seminar for women and seminar graduates, PCS spoke to Tzvi Pirutinsky, Ph.D., Career Counselor for Professional Career Services.
Q: Why is it important to receive direction before embarking in a career?
A: Many people entering the workforce or starting school have limited knowledge about careers, jobs and business; but they also know little about themselves. Getting mentorship, advice, and counseling can prevent common mistakes. It can guide you to a more satisfying and successful career, and provide the confidence and motivation to take the difficult steps necessary to launch a long-term career.
Q: What factors should one consider before choosing a career?
A: It is important to learn from women who are working in the field to get a realistic picture of the schooling, job description, and growth opportunities. One should ask herself the following questions: Will I like it? Will I excel at it? Is it practical? Will it fit in with my life style and ideals? Does it have enough long-term growth? Will my family be supportive? Do I have interests, skills, and connections that are compatible with it? Is it realistic or very risky?
Q: What is one of the greatest mistakes that seminary graduates make and how can it be avoided?
A: Some girls jump into a field too quickly because it is a popular field that their friends are pursuing. It is important to make a sound decision based on what works for you.
The Women’s Career Seminar will take place this Sunday morning, June 26 from 10:30-12. For more information contact: 732-905-9700 ext. 610 or [email protected]
