PHOTOS & VIDEO: Off-duty officers of Lakewood PBA Local 71 spent the day Friday helping out the less fortunate members of the community, by holding their third annual coat drive, and open Soup Kitchen.
“We collected over 3,000 coats this year”, says PBA President Gary Przewoznik. Children’s toys, strollers and bedding were also included in this year’s distribution, which was held at Red Square on Clifton Avenue.
In addition to the Coat Drive, chili – prepared by Officer Summer Cunliffe, was added to this year’s open Soup Kitchen, keeping the visitors warm.
Isn’t Red Square in Moscow?
#1 – are you off your meds?
I agree,it has always been known as town square until a certain group started writing about it on TLS This area is TOWN SQUARE ask anyone who is a long time Lakewood person, someone who has lived in this town for more that 30 years.
Before this gets out of hand, and totally off the subject. It is also called “Red Square”, and “The Center of Town”. If you have been a life long resident as you claim, you would have known this fact as well. I also was raised in Lakewood along with most of our Officers and we all refer to the “Town Square” as Red Square…But does it really matter what we call it and to claim the name changed when a “certain group” started writing about it is totally ridiculous and also sounds slightly bias to me as well. It is a place we can all gather to do good deeds for our community. Let’s not lose focus here people! If you would ever like to discuss the issues you have with TLS reporting on our events or the fact that I refer to “Town Square” as “Red Square”, feel free to meet me at 231 Third Street anytime…(Oh by the way, we changed the street name to Matlosz Way, if that is ok?) Have a nice evening and a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season!
Ps. Take a good look at the “Square” it’s done in red bricks, and it’s square, hence the name!!!
Who was the “certain group”?
Well thanks Gary and yes we all do thank the scoop for so many wonderful positive articles about our glorious town, but you are correct that the officers have been calling it that for well over 25 years or right after the downtown was red bricked. No negative or bias there at all.
Thanks Gary for all that you do for our town! (PS- good call on the chili Summer!)
