Chief Robert C. Lawson regretfully announces the death of retired Lakewood Police Department Detective Donald Smoke. Det. Smoke honorably served the citizens of Lakewood from December, 1957 until his retirement in June of 1983. Donald was a highly decorated officer.
He served in the Patrol Division and was then assigned as a detective in 1966. He continued his service with the Detective Division until his retirement.
He was 80 years old.
His nephew, Sgt. Peter Smoke continues the family tradition of service to our community.

He was a good man
to all the Smoke girls our prayer’s and thought’s are with you at this time, Your Father was a good man as well as a great Husband and Father to all you. G-d bless all of you

Rest in Peace – YOu gave of yourself for 26 years with dedication and committment beyond the norm. We thank you for your efforts and may your family be comforted by the legacy that you left behind of living to help others and to keep our world safe and free of crime and misdemeanors. You stood for Right over Wrong and you fought for that cause. We all appreciate your hard work and efforts on our behalf.
You will be missed by all. You gave wise advice to a rookie who went through his career without forgetting what you said. R.I.P.
