Passing of Holocaust Survivor and longtime Lakewood resident Herman Katz Z”L

We regret to inform you of the passing of Herman Katz Z”L, a Holocaust Survivor and longtime Lakewood resident. He was 96.

Herman moved to Lakewood approximately 65 years ago, and resided on Cross Street.

He is survived by his sister Ruth, 99, his daughter Mrs. Deborah Flancbaum, two grandchildren – Justin and Jared, and six great-grandchildren.

The Levaya will be taking place at 3:00 PM at the 7th Street Chapel.

  1. BDE I have many fond memories growing up in Lakewood with Mr Katz. He always had a smile on his face and boundless energy. He will surely be missed by many.

  2. The fondest memory that I have of Herman Katz Z”L is the way that he made every person feel like they were his closest friend, it didn’t matter how old they were or what their background was.

    He was a pure soul and will be missed by all.

  3. A wonderful, friendly person. Was such a devoted husband. Although he suffered at the hands of the Nazis yms”h, his family and achievements were a true victory!

  4. TATALA WAS A GREAT MAN. ALWAYS RUNNING AFTER PEOPLE TO GIVE THEM TZEDAKA. A STAUNCH SUPPORTER OF BAIS KAILA.HE WOULD CALL US BEFORE WE HAD A CHANCE TO CALL HIM BEFORE A DINNER . WE ALL LOVED HIM,.SUCH A MENTCH. AT THE ENTRANCE TO BAIS KAILA THERE IS A ROAD CALLED SARAH’S PATH WHICH HE DEDICATED IN MEMORY OF HIS WIFE A”H.. WE WILL MISS HIM

  5. Fond memories of seeing him at Sons of Israel for Mincha/maariv. Always a big smile and energetic handshake. Must’ve impacted thousands over his long life.
