Parkway and Turnpike Tolls Set to Increase for A Fifth Time Since 2020

Drivers in New Jersey are poised to see toll hikes for a fifth time since 2020 on the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike after the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, the agency which controls the both roadways, approved their 2025 budget this afternoon.

The $2.7 billion budget, which is a $95.3 million, or 3.7%, increase from the 2024 budget, includes a 3% toll increase – which is on top of last year’s 3% increase, which itself was on top of the previous year’s 3% increase, which was also a repeat 3% increase from the prior year.

Earlier this year, tolls on the Parkway increased from $1.96 for drivers using E-ZPass to $2.02 and from $2 to $2.10 for cash-paying motorists.

The budget was approved by a 6-0 vote.

  1. Three percent won’t hurt anyone. I for one don’t have a problem with the increase. The parkway is a lot smoother than it was in the 70’s and 80’s. Let the cheapskates complain.

    • It adds up. That money can be better spent elsewhere.
Why not get rid of the waste & corruption instead of constantly raising tolls. If it can be done elsewhere it can be done here. (Btw, this is why you vote “R”)
Maryland REPUBLICAN Governor Hogan, “In 2015 we cut tolls at every single facility in the state.
With this next action, we will be delivering on 3 ROUNDS OF TOLL RELIEF IN LESS THAN 5 YEARS.”
If Maryland figured it out I’m sure something could be done here.
Most tolls dropping around 33% or some even over 50% certainly does add up if you use the facility often.
