A New Twist To Tax Rebates?

blue claws field piecesPHOTO: How would you like to take home a piece of the Blue Claws Stadium playing field? Well you can. Today and tomorrow, the Blue Claws is ripping out the sod of the entire stadium and replacing it for the 2011 season. The Stadium Ground-keeper Ryan Radcliffe tells TLS that the 90,000 square foot surface is being replaced for the first time after 10 years, due the hardness which prevents the surface from properly absorbing the rain.

Under the grass, there’s a mix of about 90% sand and 10% organic material (in a 10 inch rootzone). Over time, the top layer of the rootzone underneath the grass will build down from the surface with a lot of silt and clay, about a quarter inch per year. As that builds up, it’s harder for the water to drain completely through.

The replacement process is expected to take about three weeks.

  1. As a Phillies fan I want the best turf for our prospects why should they play on a bas field not only that but we have yankees and met fans paying for it!

  2. The Lakewood Blueclaws are footing the bill for the sod replacement. Therefore, no tax dollars will be used. All of you nay sayers..yes you too HH, stop the ranting.

  3. I’m not a big baseball fan and have only been to the blueclaws stadium once ,but it is an asset to this town so why all the negative comments here?? save it for the crime ,graffiti , BOE issues and all the other stuf that deserves to be scrutinized

  4. Like #10 said..We are not footing that bill the Lakewood Blueclaws and their parent team the Phillies are footing that bill. We are not paying a cent..so stop worrying about what you dont have to pay for

  5. #10 #13
are you on the township commitee?
prove it that this will not cost the taxpayers a dime? nowhere does it mention that the phillies are paying for it.

  6. The township does not pay the bill. Nor do they pay they bill for anything inside the of the blueclaws stadium, the lighting on a street that leads to the stadium is different. THE BLUECLAWS WILL BE PAYING!

  7. To #14. The answer is no. You are obviously struck by HH brain issues. Maybe it’s the water on Cedar Row. The Blueclaws are footing the bill for the sod. Stop acting like HH and complaining about everything even when no issue exists.

  8. During the Twp. meeting concerning the continued Fleecing of taxpayers specifically on the Dangerous Million $$$$ lites, town officials stated that More of our $$$$ is to be added to the lite rip-off so that Field Repairs can be done. We’re PAYING for this SOD
