Women from over 40 neighborhoods in the greater Lakewood area are participating in the annual Chai Lifeline Chanukah Toy Drive, enlisting neighbors and friends to unite in this extraordinary effort.
“The project has been growing by leaps and bounds and the neighborhood involvement just continues to grow” says Mrs. Miller who is the coordinator of the project. “It’s remarkable to see the creativity and outpouring of love coming from every neighborhood.”
The volunteers sign up and are paired with an anonymous Chai Lifeline family’s wishlist. For some families, the gifts get delivered to their homes or to hospital rooms, while others will receive their gifts at local Chai Lifeline Chanukah parties or events.
For over two decades Chai Lifeline has been distributing toys and gifts to children and families battling illness and the momentum is only growing.
“The incredible outpouring of warmth and support from the community is felt by families and that is a great source of much strength and comfort to them” said Rabbi Sruly Fried, MSW, Director Chai Lifeline NJ.
As heard from one of the hundreds of volunteers, “It was the most beautiful experience, I’ve been involved in many chasadim, but there was something so special about this, standing in the toy store with my daughter and looking at the list and matching up toys, it was just so beautiful and personal, it had so much meaning to it. Thank you for that z’chus.”
