Orthodox Union Expresses Deep Disappointment Over Democratic Party Platform Silence On Jerusalem

The leadership of the Orthodox Union today expressed its deep disappointment over the Democratic Party’s platform’s shift of language with regard to the status of the holy city of Jerusalem.

The platform released late Monday, to be voted upon today in Charlotte, NC, makes no mention of Jerusalem or of the issue of Israel’s capital. By contrast, the 2008 platform stated that “Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel.”

The Orthodox Union’s leadership stated:

“At a time when Arab leaders persistently assert falsehoods about Jerusalem’s history, and deny the ancient Jewish connection to our holy city, the decision of national leaders of the Democratic Party to go silent on this issue is extremely disappointing.

Facts are facts; Jerusalem is Israel’s capital, and America’s national leaders do no service to the people of the Mideast or the world by refusing to acknowledge these crucial facts.” TLS.

  1. Dear # 1,
Politics is obviously not your forte.
It is common knowledge that one of the core issues among a large number of voters in the U.S.A. is middle east conflict and the status of Jerusalem.

  2. Dear #1:

“what doe’s this have to do with a u.s. presidential election..??

    Huh!?!

What do deer have to do with a U.S. presidential election?

  3. The liberal Jews helped Obama win his last election and will do so again this November. I can not believe any Jew will vote for him but the majority of American Jews will. I will not.
If you look at his staff members past and present they make up a vast majority of Liberal Jews.

I am a reformed Jew who is proud to be a Jew.

  4. I just read they reinstated the language. Not that it really means anything to them except they got caught and had to capitulate to criticism.

  5. And to top it off, they had to vote 3 times to get it passed, and even then, it wasn’t unanimous…”Finally, on the third attempt, Villaraigosa took a voice vote and simply declared, in the “opinion of the chair,” that it had been passed. There were widespread boos in the convention hall to the renewed inclusion of God and language about Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. And Villaraigosa was lying, in any case – there is no way that the voice vote had passed. Opponents stood up and protested, waving and shouting. The fix was in. The Democratic leadership had to ram a mention of God and a mention of Jerusalem through, violating their own rules, to avoid the fallout within their own ranks.”

Yeah, who cares if over 6 million jews are in grave danger… whats important is the economy is back on track and you have a good job… thats all that matters, right?

Well basically. I would venture to guess that Israel is not a major issue with a majority of Americans. It may not seem like that in Lakewood, because we have a bit of a bubble. But if you go to middle America, where Jewish populations are relatively small, I think you will find that te us economy is much more important to them.
