Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce Applauds Passage of Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill

The Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce applauds Rep. Chris Smith and Rep. Jeff Van Drew for their vote in favor of the the passage of the historic bipartisan infrastructure bill that will provide a critical boost to the nation’s crumbling roads, bridges, tunnels and ports, as well as historic investments in the nation’s broadband and water infrastructure, which will ensure the United States’ continued ability to maintain its status as the greatest economic powerhouse in the world.

It takes no more than a cursory review for even a layman to conclude that the current state of our nation’s infrastructure is beyond unacceptable, and frankly shameful for the world’s largest and most powerful economy.

The American Society of Civil Engineers earlier this year gave the nation’s infrastructure a C- score; roughly 20% of America’s highways and major roadways – and more than 45,000 bridges – are in poor condition. These sobering facts underscore the danger and difficulty of resting our hopes and plans for economic growth on crumbling infrastructure.

The legislation’s investment in broadband, the power grid and public transit will also provide crucial upgrades to our archaic systems and supply the US economy with the necessary tools to continue outperforming economic expectations, as it has done since its inception.

This legislation, which includes a historic $550 billion investment in desperately needed and long overdue infrastructure projects across the United States, will augment the United States’ already dominant and dynamic economy, and will make a profound impact not only on the lives of all Americans, but also business leaders, entrepreneurs, and laypeople across the globe.

The business community is in staunch agreement: the bipartisan infrastructure bill is good for Main Street and Wall Street, it is good for its businesspeople, and it is good for the country’s standing on the global stage.

We applaud the local and national lawmakers, governors, mayors, and business and union leaders for their support and amplification of this infrastructure initiative. It is both reassuring and exciting that our elected officials – despite political pressure to do otherwise – have made investments in our nation’s infrastructure a top priority.

For that, the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce and the business community at large thanks and commends them.

  1. 10% of this bill is for traditional infrastructure. There are more efficient ways to get that done without the Fed printing $1.2 trillion dollars and adding that to circulation adding to the historic inflation.
