Opinion: Hypocrisy – by Ben Avrohom

opinionFailure to accept the results of a democratically held election was “horrifying” according to Clinton pre election. Now Clinton seems to have reversed her position entirely, as she has done throughout her history in politics. So much for a peaceful transition of power and so much for her rhetoric that failure to accept election results was “a threat to democracy.”

Clinton is supporting a Green Party initiated recount in the state of Wisconsin. This is a state Trump won fairly and which even Clinton’s own campaign admits there was no evidence of abnormalities. The Obama administration itself has insisted hackers did not decide this election saying, “the results accurately reflect the will of the American people.” The recount demands are a direct challenge to the legitimacy of Trump’s presidency and are not based on solid evidence.

While any such recount will in all likelihood not change the results of the election, it reveals yet again hypocrisy on the left and particularly in the Clinton camp. Throughout the campaign, Clinton and the mainstream media pressed President elect Trump on whether he would accept the results of the election. Clinton on many occasions made her displeasure with Trump’s equivocation on this question known. Now she is supporting a recount despite already conceding the election to Donald Trump.

This plays right into the narrative throughout the campaign that she will say one thing and do another. The day after the election was decided, Clinton said she hoped “he will be a successful president for all Americans.” Admitting defeat Clinton added “I’m sorry that we did not win this election.” Apparently Clinton like she did on TPP,on Wall Street, and on illegal immigration changed her mind showing yet again that she is a career politician.

What is the President elect’s response to the calls from the left for a recount? “The people have spoken and the election is over, and as Hillary Clinton herself said on election night, in addition to her conceding by congratulating me, We must accept this result and then look to the future.” The President elect is rightfully pointing out the hypocrisy of Clinton and the futility of this recount. He also called the recount a “scam”.

Recount or not, it’s time for the Clinton camp to end its hypocrisy. After complaining for years about attempts by some to delegitimize Obama’s presidency, the left should heed its own advice and respect the office of the Presidency. Holding out and challenging the results of the election on illegitimate grounds will not only ensure Clinton goes down in history as a divider – not a uniter, but will contribute to a divided country and on false pretenses at that.

  1. It’s silly to claim that Hillary is acting hypocritically while Trump rightfully calls for “the results accurately reflect the will of the American people”.
The suit asking for a recount is asking to accomplish what legally can be done in a situation like Wisconsin.
During the election, Trump claimed the election was rigged and implied that the process has no reliability. This recount effort has little to do with that. This is asking for a recount to be sure that the votes were counted correctly and that there was no wrongdoing.
The silliest part of this idea is to claim that hillary is the hypocritical one while Trump is the white dove. Trump is the one who just recently tweeted that he would’ve won the popular vote if only the millions of illegal votes weren’t counted, a claim that there is no evidence for. While he is making such ludicrous statements he also claims that the election is over and should be accepted?!? Can there be any larger display of hypocrisy???
We have to be able to deal with reality, whether we are comfortable with it or not. The partisan politics that ignores reason is a recipe for disaster.

  2. Let her do the recount. It will just confirm Trump’s victory.
Why she would want to rattle the leaves of the man that has the power to restart the unvestigations in to her scandalous behavior beats me.
