Opinion: Here’s an Idea: Ignore the CDC | Aaron Neuman

If you have been confused by the guidance given by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention throughout the course of the pandemic, you’re not alone. Many, many people have been scratching their heads over restrictions and guidance from the CDC that were often clearly wrong, contradictory, and sometimes outright ludicrous – like keeping children masked.

It’s not just laypeople who have been bewildered by the CDC – many doctors and public health experts are slowly turning on them too, with some even saying to ignore them completely.

For instance, take Dr. Marty Makary, a distinguished professor at the renowned Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, who is outright advising Americans to ignore the CDC due to their puzzling refusal to acknowledge natural immunity.

Dr. Makary noted in an interview that there are likely 150 million Americans who already have natural immunity against COVID-19 and that the insistence of the CDC and the Biden administration that everyone gets vaccinated, regardless of whether they have antibodies or not, makes no sense.

“I never thought I’d say this, but please ignore the CDC guidance,” Makary said, telling Americans to “live a normal life, unless you are unvaccinated and did not have the infection, in which case you need to be careful.”

Makary said that the CDC’s unwillingness to recognize that natural immunity provides strong levels of protection against the virus is “one of the biggest failures of our current medical leadership.”

“Natural immunity works,” Makary said. “We’ve got to start respecting individuals who choose not to get the vaccine, instead of demonizing them. There is more data on natural immunity than there is on vaccinated immunity because natural immunity has been around longer,” he went on, noting that both infection and vaccination likely provides lifelong immunity to the virus.

So, what’s going on with the CDC? Why are they giving guidance that even medical professionals say have nothing to do with the actual risk level of COVID-19? The answer is as sad as it is simple. The CDC has been overtaken by Democrats and liberals who have an agenda to push. Once you recognize that, it all starts making sense. So do yourself a favor and ignore the CDC, at least with regards to COVID-19 guidance.

  1. Your last sentence is interesting. Ignore them only regards to Covid? Why? Not everything they say is accepted by all doctors and scientists. It’s a big world out there. I have to laugh how anyone can follow them blindly in anything! They are part of government and just like government is inept, corrupt, and prone to special interest, so is the CDC ! But I’m gratified to see the ONE good thing to come out of covid is that people are starting to understand this once and for all…..

    • The CDC is quasi-government private corporation (like the Federal Reserve and USPS) and is a way to operate and be financially independent of the Department of Health, Human Services and any other government agency. It’s sources of funding are predicated on the fact that it also has a private 501(c)(3) public non-profit charity, like the Clinton Foundation. The CDC Foundation receives charitable contributions and philanthropic grants from individuals, foundations, corporations, universities, NGOs and other organizations to advance the work of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is NOT a government-funded organization although the government is free do donate our taxpayer money to it. It is not without reason that the CDC does the bidding of it’s donors.

  2. Natural infection from the so called “wild type” virus (original strain), provided no immune coverage against the South African strain. The vaccine did provide a decent level of protection against South Africa albeit lower than against the other strains. The vaccines generally provide a robust response while natural immunity is sometimes not as strong. This is a back and forth with every single virus in the world. Sometimes natural immunity is better and sometimes the vaccine is stronger than natural immunity

  3. Before we all applaud in unison and condemn the CDC, please realize that this is a highly respected medical body that has been responsible for hundreds of health improvements in our daily lives. Like any governmental or nongovernmental organization, other interests can at times skew their judgment. I am an academic physician, so I know much more than the lay public about this. But the way of the Torah is to rely on acclaimed authorities, and Hashem will take care of the rest . Everyone knows that Batei dinim may also differ in their psak depending on various non- halachic interests. It is unacceptable for people to advocate for medical anarchy.

  4. Do you honestly think that the CDC are a bunch of tzadikim sitting around the table and asking each other how to advance the health of our fellow Americans without bias? Secondly, they are not halacha lemoshe misinai or the sanhedrin. There are many many scientists that disagree with them from A to Z. And yes, I am in the healthcare field and know more about this than the average lay person…..

    • No one, including “Nisht a Naar” is making a 100% comparison between the CDC and Batei Din. Perhaps he should have said l’havdil.

We say l’havdil when we wish to compare two items for a characteristic they may share, but we wish show that we do not fully equate the two.

His point presumably is that even batei din can unknowingly introduce bias into their piskei halacha. That is why there are halachas about how batei din are chosen between litigants. And even the Sanhedrin can make mistakes in their psak. That is what the Par He’elem Dovor korban is all about.

Yet the Torah obligates us to follow the psak of the Sanhedrin and batei din when psak is issued even though there is the possibility of possible bias and mistakes.

The CDC, l’havdil, is similar. It considers risks to public health taking many factors into consideration. After its medical advisors meet, they issue recommendations. They can be wrong, biased or misguided. The hope is that that is the exception rather than the rule.

But despite the possibility for error and bias, the CDC has a critical role in that it exists to protect the public health.

What nisht a naar is objecting to is the flippant attitude that says that the CDC are a bunch of know-nothings, and that we do whatever we want. That is anarchy.

And then there is the halacha, that we have to listen to ruling medical authorities of our time to know how to conduct ourselves. The Torah does not advocate a system where the fulfillment of V’Nishmartem Me’od is left up to each person’s own Boych Svara.

      • Didn’t say they are “know-nothings”. We are saying they are not “know-everythings”. Their bias was evident for all to see with the banning of hydroxy etc. But that’s old news….And if you are into old news, look into connection of CDC and Coca Cola…..They have been caught red handed more than once. But it all boils down to this: If our collective health is to be trusted to these bueracrats, then it should be a 100% funded by government as mentioned above. The fact that it is not, tells us that it was intentionally set up this way for someone to profit. ALWAYS FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL……
