An explosive story broken by the Wall Street Journal has pundits and Democrats (are they actually different?) calling again for the impeachment of President Trump. The WSJ on Thursday wrote that a part of the ongoing whistleblower saga raging in Washington, was an instance in July in which President Trump asked the Ukrainian president eight times to work with Rudy Giuliani to investigate potential political opponent Joe Biden for possible misdoings. Rudy Giuliani all but confirmed the story in a bizarre interview he had with CNN’s Chris Cuomo shortly after the story broke.
Let’s be very clear: if Trump did indeed try to get Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, it is a serious, even impeachable, crime. It would mean that the president basically asked another country to interfere in the 2020 election, and that Trump tried using America’s foreign policy apparatus for his own political gain. I’m a conservative, but that’s serious, that’s no joke. Even if Sean Hannity thinks otherwise.
But here’s the thing: it’s not going to make a difference. Trump won’t be impeached; it might not even affect his chances of being reelected (unless there is a lot more to this story). And the reason isn’t because Democrats don’t know how to take advantage or because Republicans are sycophants who will never impeach another Republican. Instead, this will not affect Trump in any way because of… Bill and Hillary Clinton. Yes, Trump has the Clintons to thank for allowing him to get away with not just this most recent story, but numerous other stories that documented possible corruption and kleptocratic behavior on the part of the president and his administration. How? Let me explain.
For many years, Democrats have been telling American voters that the behavior of Billary were totally normal – that no matter what you saw from them, they were really so completely in touch with you and your values. Of course, this wasn’t true.
Bill Clinton’s behavior in the Oval Office during his time as president is well known, and it goes against the values of most Americans. Yet Democrats defended him.
Hillary illegally destroyed thousands of emails from a private server she was forbidden from using, yet Democrats said those calling for accountability were conducting a “witch hunt.”
When people pointed out that the Clinton Foundation was accepting millions of dollars from countries who would be affected by policies enacted by a possible future President Hillary Clinton, we were told to get a life.
And it doesn’t stop with Billary.
Their closest aides, Doug Band and Huma Abedin, respectively, made millions off through their governmental connections. A simple Google search will show numerous other scandals involving deep corruption that were done by the Clintons.
So yes, Trump is doing some really bad things and those actions and activities should be stopped. But before wagging fingers at Republican lawmakers and voters for allowing this to happen, remember when all this corruption became acceptable and routine: when the Clintons did it.
