Op-Ed: Trust Is Mutual, By Aaron Joseph

op edWhile officially separation of church and state is a paramount clause in the structure of these United States, the term In God We Trust is ever much bandied and championed; both in the United States Congress, and on each of the United States currency.

“In God We Trust.” We raise up our voices in unison offering praise and beseeching. Not as a congregation or religious faction. Rather, as a nationally family embracing words and tones that have carried our American forefather through the ages.

In God we trust. Does God trust in us? Are we deserving of his blessing? Can we expect the same Godly grace and nationalistic pride the bygone generations of Americans embraced, through their idealistic and moralistic virtue of truly trusting in God?

During the American Revolution Benedict Arnold became a traitor. He had himself appointed commander of West Point, with the intention of surrendering that military base to the British. Mr. Arnold escaped capture at the very last moment and lived out the remainder of his life in London, England. No elite marine group sailed the Atlantic to get him. However, those who were implicated in this plot and were captured, were given a military tribunal before being sentenced to death by hanging.

History is replete with so many vast tales and historic details of traitors- terrorists whom for there time and place were the epitome of evil. They, those whom were traitors to their original cause were often sought and brought to justice.

In recent memory, one can only recall a few years back, when Mr. Saddam Hussein was captured, bearded, in some deep whole on some farmers land. He was brought to justice and hung. It was an ordeal, monetarily and psychologically, yet justice was served.

I’d like to jump back to World War Two. Adolf Hitler and his cohort thugs caused between 50,000,000 – 70,000,000 human casualties. Nearly caused an entire religion to go extinct and destroyed what in today’s figures would be in the tens of trillions of dollars damage. That is aside for the 7 years of global commodity production that was required to end his regime of, what at the time was considered Nazism- or global terrorisms.

In retrospect, our generation of Americans most be agape with stupefaction at the idiotic doctrine of those fools of yesteryear. Of those whom came up with the idea of bringing Nazism to civilized justice at Nuremberg. After all, those thugs; the more famous ones Rudolf Hess, Joachim von Ribbentrop, and Karl Dönitz, along with about 10 others, were considered responsible for utterly destroying the world and keeping it in a state of ruin for nearly 7 years. Yet they were all put on trial, fair trial. Each judged according to their own deeds, each receiving various penalties, albeit most were put to death.

It is fascinating, that while those monsters were locked in their individual cells, there was a 24 hour personal guard standing just outside of each cell. Those guards were on suicide watch. They were to guard each prisoner so that they would not kill themselves before they had a chance to face justice. they succedded- save for one who did manage- Hermann Goring.

To today’s generation, such stupidity can terrorize the mind of some.

Some 50 years ago, Israeli secret agents somehow kidnapped Adolf Eichmann from his alias in Buenos Aires. They drugged him, shipped him some 7,500 miles around the world, and held a lavish trial. All this, for a terrorist whom organized and implemented the systematic murder of only 6+ million Jews, and many other “undesirables”. For crying out loud, he did not want to go with those Israeli agents. What were those Israeli’s thinking? Simply gas the man instead- and cremate his remains. The world would understand. Perhaps place the ashes in an urn in the bathroom of Yad V’Shem. But no. There was justice to be served. A trial and a hanging.

In retrospect we must realize a very important reality. There is a unbridgeable distance between those whom compile and live the theme: “In God We Trust,” and those whom just mouth it. Between those whom composed “God Bless America,” and those whom emptily and pettily hum it.

The difference is accountability, responsibility and yes, even justice. The key difference is: whom the accountability is to. To ones personal agenda? Or to the entire world population. To whom are the “leaders of the free world” responsible to?

The now famous grave situation room picture vividly reflects the aura that those “insiders,” representative of some in society, and the assumed accountability to the belief in themselves, and there agenda.

However, the greater world was not served justice. America proved that “We are no better then them- the terrorists.” Although America operates under the guise of  a civilized population.

Yet we killed unarmed people. How can justice be served. Justice is the concept of moral rightness based on ethics, rationality, law, natural law, religion, fairness, or equity, along with the punishment of the breach of said ethics.

By carrying out terrorism against those that foul us in the worst way, we are acting just like them- in a far reaching universally worse way- doing an injustice that will forever be seared into the minds and memories of those whom witnessed it. The underlining subconscious realization is: I am represented by those whom act in just the same way as those bad people whom inflicted harm. Justice has not been served. It has been perverted. We are now scarred even deeper.

Did we serve the world justice by killig Bin Ladin?

The previous generation- those whom lived by the standard of their motif- “In God We Trust” recognized the higher responsibility of serving justice to all the world, in a way that would lift all and make them realize- we are better then them- not like them.

By improving society and it’s inherent civilized ways, one and all would be able to hope for and receive the ramification of those simple hallowed words of “God Bless America.”

But if we as a nation can lower the moral and expectation of civilization and justice by imitating the ways of those who operate in the vilest and wicked ways, how can we expect Blessing. How can we be entrusted by God to the American dream and mission?

The least we can do is to not be so overly enthusiastically robust by the way this terribly wicked individual was killed; without proper Justice. Without setting a proper example for the world to follow. To show the world as our fathers before us that – We are better then them.

In this way at least hopefully God will continue to entrust us and Bless us all.

May God Bless you, and the United States of America.

Trust is mutual.

Thank You.

  1. what on earth are you talking about?? You say “Yet we killed unarmed people” !!!?? Do you think just because media headlines proclaim “were not armed” and because some Pakistani insider eager for money sold close-up pictures of some gory pictures of those killed without much of a view of the area surrounding them to be able to see that there were no weapons they dropped when killed, (or weapons that the US soldiers or later the Pakistani soldiers removed) that you can therefore know that they were “unarmed”?? Do you really believe that those select few individuals who knew where bin laden ym”sh was hiding and who were the ones charged with protecting this madman would simply get up to meet people barging into their house in the middle of the night without ANY weapons? Do you think ANY of them, including bin laden even SLEPT without a weapon nearby? What inside ‘scoop’ did you get that the Navy Seals had a choice of capturing him alive or killing him/ them “unarmed” as you say and decided to kill him? And let’s say for argument’s sake that they were so caught by surprise that they therefore did not have a chance to grab their weapons. So what? I am not a policeman nor am I in the military but I can absolutely assure you that those that have been in a similar tense, armed situation, bursting into an unfamiliar “bad guy’s den” seeking out the blood-thirsty “bad guy” hiding behind one of many closed doors around any corner in a house 100X more familiar to the “bad guy” than the “good guys”, anyone who has done that can tell you that you have less than a second to decide upon seeing him whether to shoot or say “put your hands up.” If the bad guys did even so much as to reach behind them, the soldiers do not have the luxury of waiting to see whether they produce a weapon.

  2. Imagine you are in a situation to capture the world’s most wanted terrorist, and encounter an armed guard several floors below him, who shoots at you. After killing the guard, you find your terrorist with several guns near him (even if not in arm’s reach). What sane person would run the risk of letting him access to those guns instead of shooting him dead?

  3. Killing OBL does not diminish The USA in any way. Did he grant “justice” to the thousands that he killed? Did he observe the rules of civility and justice? The Navy Seals had a very difficult choice to make in a split second. They did what had to be done. Mission accomplished.

  4. The “kill or capture” order was issued by President Clinton, re-issued by President Bush, and re-issued by President Obama. This moral outcry seems to be raised only after the execution of a plan that has been out in the open for well over a decade. My understanding is that the we were fully prepared for the unlikely contingency of a surrender by Bin Laden. Specifically, he would have been taken to a base in Afghanistan and then transported to the USS Carl Vinson in the Arabian Sea, where we had assembled a team of medical professionals, translators/interpreters, and lawyers, to insure his health and insure that he would be brought to trial with no hitches. I am troubled that you are so quick to assume that this was strictly a plan to murder him. Bear in mind, given that he was on the world’s wanted list for a long time and had never made any effort to surrender, and given that his doctrine has been to instruct others to die fighting for his warped cause, it was reasonably expected that he would fight to the death and make to effort to surrender. If the brave men who went after him resolved any ambiguities in favor of expecting a fight to the death, then that is a situation created by Bin Laden himself. There is no need for my country to bear any shame in this matter. I feel that America should be proud to have put an end to the actions of a man who threatened the lives of innocent people across the world.

  5. An article that states “America proved we are no better than the terrorists” should not be posted on TLS. Because Mr. Joseph is in America, he can write this garbage but TLS should not give him the attention he craves.
