Op-Ed: The Parnassah Expo – The Third Mass Gathering of the Year

By: Yossel Gitelis (Yid). I would like to share with my fellow TLS readers a quick thought that I heard this past Shabbos from a very chosheve yungerman:

שמעון הצדיק היה משיירי כנסת הגדולה; הוא היה אומר: על שלושה דברים העולם עומד – על התורה ועל העבודה ועל גמילות-חסדים

The world stands on three pillars: On Torah, on Avodah, and on Gmilas Chasadim.

This Parnassah Expo will be the third time within the past year that Klal Yisroel in America is gathering k’ish echad b’lev echad.

We all recall when just six short months ago, 90,000 yidden gathered at Metlife Stadium to celebrate the completion of the Daf Hayomi. Men, women, and children of all walks of life gathered together in the single greatest show of kavod hatorah in modern history, to proclaim the Torah as the eternal tree of life, to be studied at all hours of the day and night, in the Bais Medrash and on the train and in the corporate boardrooms, by those who wear blue shirts and those who wear black hats, Sfardim and Ashkenazim, Chasidim and Misnagdim, modern and ultra…… We were all mekabel the Torah together!

We all recall the momentous gathering of the internet asifah just a short nine months ago, when close to 60,000 yidden sat together at Citifield and were מהרהר בתשובה, and were mekabel on ourselves fear of heaven. Who can forget that moment of silence when all of us – young and old – chasid and misnaged – sat for one quiet minute and were mekabel on ourselves to become better in our avodas Hashem, each in his own way and on his own level. Has there been such a public, mass הרהור בתשובה since the days of Haman and Mordechai?

My friends, this public display of Torah and Avodah in the past year is unprecedented in modern history. But we are not finished yet. The third pillar that the world stands on is Gemilas Chasadim; helping one another with their gashmiyus. And as the Rambam states, the greatest tzedakah that one can give to a fellow man is finding him a job.

This Tuesday, Klal Yisroel in America will have the opportunity to publicly, en-masse, be mekayim the greatest tzedakah possible, and help each other find jobs. No, this gathering will not feel the same as the first two. There won’t be any public קבלת עול מלכות שמיים, there won’t be any fiery and inspiring speeches, and we will not bring our young children with us. There won’t be 90,000 yidden or even 60,000 yidden there, nor will it feel like Yom Kippur or Simchas Torah. But it will be the third and final mass gathering of the year, and the third and final pillar of the world: גמילות-חסדים.

Be there. Help a fellow yid find his parnassah, and support his family with respect.

This monumental gathering will be the historic culmination of a year when Klal Yisroel, together, were mekayem all שלושה דברים: Torah, Avodah, and Gmilas Chasadim. Be a part of it! Perhaps this will be the merit that will bring us the ultimate shleimus of the world, with the arrival of Moshiach Tzidkeinu Bimheira Biyameinu, Amen.

  1. Reb Duvie is so amazing I am shocked that he was able to pull this off and fill all the booths in such a short time I thought he was dreaming when he first told me and not only that he’s only charging $25 to come and get a Parnassah and if you can’t be helped than you can at least get life skills by networking with people and if that doesn’t help you can go to the seminars which gives you chizak and if that does not help you can sign up for a course and there’s much more that you and I don’t know about but I’m sure everyone will be helped may we all be Zocha to be successful tomorrow can’t wait

Although I am unfortunately unable to attend, I woke up this morning with the feeling that, “Today is the Parnassah Expo!” You can feel it in the air, it definitely is something major and I hope every single individual and company there benefits from attending and that kllal yisroel have no more parnassah problems!
