By Baruch M. Well, Obama promised us that he would not raise taxes for middle class Americans. The Supreme Court ruled that the only way the individual mandate stands is if it is considered a tax. So Obama raised taxes on every one of us.
These taxes will begin after the election. (Smart cookies, those Democrats, making sure these taxes don’t kick in until after the election.)
What does this mean for the future of America?
Well, the government can now mandate anything they want, by taxing you if you don’t listen. So for example, the government can now mandate that you must wear a black hat on Shabbos, and if you don’t, you will be taxed $5,000. Simple as that! According to the Supreme Court, this is now constitutional.
So you say, nahhh, the government would never do something so stupid as that.
Really? The next time we have a liberal majority in Congress, they may pass a law that every citizen must lose 40 pounds within a year…… or pay a $10,000 tax. Or that every citizen must buy a Chevy Volt or pay a $50,000 tax.
You think it won’t happen, because it never has happened before. Because no President or Congress has dared to pass such laws because we all thought it was unconstitutional. But now that the Supreme Court has ruled in constitutional, there will be plenty of such mandates passed.
You must go to college, or be subject to a $20,000 tax. You must go to zumba “fitness” lessons, or you will be taxed $5,000. You must teach your children about evolution, or you will be taxed $50,000. You must watch certain TV programs (educational, of course) or you will be taxed. You must do exercise, or you will be taxed. You must attend classes that promote “alternative lifestyles” or you will be taxed.
Just use your imagination of the possibilities, and one day, some liberal will try to force you to do it, and tax you if you don’t . Lots of money. And then if you don’t pay it, the IRS will stop by and you will go to jail.
Wake up America, vote ‘em out quickly, because this is our last chance to stop this madness.
It is now constitutional to do these things, at least let’s make sure we have a President and Congress who won’t actually try to start making all these new laws and “taxes”.
Please vote for the sake of our country. Vote for our freedom, prosperity, and SAFETY!

Yes, the flood gates are open, the next thing you know the government will mandate recycling.
People need to realize that we all grew up thinking America will always be a safe country, with freedoms and prsperity for all. We always knew that all those problems that happen in third world countries can never happen here in America.
The reason for that was that the Constitution prevented any US President or Congress from becoming too powerful, and thereby ruling over us as a dictatorship.
That has now changed. And although it will take some years for a true dictator to arise, the time will come. Nothing can stop another run-away Congress (like the Democrat controlled Congress of 2008-2010) from enacting any new tax to force to do something.
The author of this article is 100% correct. Nobody will be able to say, “Ok I’ll just pay the tax” when the tax will be $200k and you will go broke if you don’t listen to whatever mandate the government decides to pass.
and with ObamaCare, they can easily TAX you if the government finds out your to fat for their standards. They can easily say that your not allowed to eat fast food, or unhealthy foods, or foods that could cause you to gain weight = thus be unhealthy and use more of your ObamaCare.
They can also claim that you do dangerous things by riding a motorcycle, 6-flags great adventure, own a sporty car, etc(just like insurance carriers do now) the Government can block you from doing and or owning such things. They can drop you by saying your gonna cost the government to much – and force you to get your own healthcare, or face fines/taxes.

The state government has the right to mandate recycling. If you don’t like it, you can move to another state.
However, the federal government never had that right. Now they do, through taxes. Where will you move now?

It can only be a tax if the cost is less than the service rendered. So if a black hat hat costs $200, your tax must be less than that, or else it is deemed a penalty, which would be considered unconstitutional.

no thats not true even a liberal congress won’t be able to pass another mandate because it is a tax they won’t be able to sneak it in as a penalty now any mandate is automatically a tax no matter what it is called and raising taxes is much harder to do when we call it a tax even liberals cant run on raising taxes
This was definitely a blow to our freedoms, however to think that congress would pass any of the laws that you have proposed is preposterous. The health care law that passed was because of the 30 million men,women and children that dont have insurance. They will never pass a bill requiring you to do any of the things you have written especially the democrats as they are looking after the “poor” aka “Kollel youngleit”.

It doesn’t exist in this country anymore, but is mentioned in the Gemara in a number of places and has roots in English common law (upon with American law is generally based) In theory, the government has the power to tax anything for existing (much like property taxes), but to regulate interstate commerce, there has to actually be some activity

I can’t believe the nonsense I’m seeing in this discussion. Dear me, the sky is falling. America is the only industrialized nation that does not provide healthcare for it’s citizens. Israel provides healthcare for it’s people. 54,000 people per year die because they do not have healthcare and receive proper treatment. People are willing to buy healthcare ONLY when they become ill and need it. Healthcare is becoming so expensive that most Americans will not be able to afford it in a few years. We have to address the freeloaders who are running up our premiums by refusing to buy healthcare. The current plan is exactly what Mitt Romney implemented in MA as Governor. He felt it was good for the people of MA and now says it’s no good simply because Pres. Obama implemented it. The people of MA like the program. Remember what happened to this country from 2000-2008. You want more of that?

I believe that the Nation’s trust in the Supreme Court has been lost. Chief Justice Roberts did a disservice to all Americans by rewriting the law in order for it to become constitutionally viable.
The Administration should have not been permitted to argue that the law was not a tax, and in other arguments argue that it is a tax. The justices should have insisted that the Administration choose one or the other.
Chief Justice Roberts erred in his willingness to change the law, where he should have viewed the law on the merits, The Administration has long contended that it is not a tax. The Supreme Court should have taken them at their word, and steered clear of changing the law to bring it into compliance.
Before you look to do harm to Chief Justice Roberts or his family, it’s important that you think carefully about the meaning – the true nature — of his ruling on Obama-care. The Left will shout that they won, that Obama-care was upheld and all the rest. Let them.
It will be a short-lived celebration.
Here’s what really occurred — payback. Yes, payback for Obama’s numerous, ill-advised and childish insults directed toward SCOTUS.
Chief Justice Roberts actually ruled the mandate, relative to the commerce clause, was unconstitutional. That’s how the Democrats got Obama-care going in the first place. This is critical. His ruling means Congress can’t compel American citizens to purchase anything. Ever. The notion is now officially and forever, unconstitutional. As it should be.
Next, he stated that, because Congress doesn’t have the ability to mandate, it must, to fund Obama-care, rely on its power to tax. Therefore, the mechanism that funds Obama-care is a tax. This is also critical. Recall back during the initial Obama-care battles, the Democrats called it a penalty, Republicans called it a tax. Democrats consistently soft sold it as a penalty. It went to vote as a penalty. Obama declared endlessly, that it was not a tax, it was a penalty. But when the Democrats argued in front of the Supreme Court, they said ‘hey, a penalty or a tax, either way’. So, Roberts gave them a tax. It is now the official law of the land — beyond word-play and silly shenanigans. Obama-care is funded by tax dollars. Democrats now must defend a tax increase to justify the Obama-care law.
Finally, he struck down as unconstitutional, the Obama-care idea that the federal government can bully states into complying by yanking their existing medicaid funding. Liberals, through Obama-care, basically said to the states — ‘comply with Obama-care or we will stop existing funding.’ Roberts ruled that is a no-no. If a state takes the money, fine, the Feds can tell the state how to run a program, but if the state refuses money, the federal government can’t penalize the state by yanking other funding. Therefore, a state can decline to participate in Obama-care without penalty. This is obviously a serious problem. Are we going to have 10, 12, 25 states not participating in “national” health-care? Suddenly, it’s not national, is it?
Ultimately, Roberts supported states rights by limiting the federal government’s coercive abilities. He ruled that the government can not force the people to purchase products or services under the commerce clause and he forced liberals to have to come clean and admit that Obama-care is funded by tax increases.
Although he didn’t guarantee Romney a win, he certainly did more than his part and should be applauded.
And he did this without creating a civil war or having bricks thrown through his windshield. Oh, and he’ll be home in time for dinner.
