A man picked the wrong place to be sniffing aerosol, according to a report issued by the Ocean County’s Sheriff’s Department.
According to the report, Darren Yurick was seen “actively using/huffing” an aerosol spray on the grounds of the Ocean County Courthouse in downtown Toms River on Friday, October 9 at 9:44 am.
He was seen and arrested by Ocean County Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy.
Mastrondary said Yurick was also “slurring his speech and appeared to be stumbling.”
The sheriff confiscated an aerosol canister labeled “CRC Duster” and took Yurick into custody.
He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and use or possession with intent to use, Mastronardy said.
During processing, it was learned that the suspect was also wanted on two probation warrants for bail violations.
He was lodged in the Ocean County Jail.
Sheriff’s Officer Matthew Horton assisted in the arrest.

My young teens sometimes sit next to me and read the Lakewood Scoop over my shoulders. Call them naive, but I don’t believe that my 12 year old knows that sniffing aerosol is even a concept. Why should the Lakewood Scoop be posting this information?
I think the Lakewood scoop needs to be aware that there are young teens and children that may read the Lakewood scoop. This is not the first time that the scoop has posted drug related incidents that I don’t think kids know or should know about until their parents feel comfortable to discuss it with them. Each parent knows when their child is ready. This is not to start a discussion on when and how we need to educate our children about drugs, alcohol and other sensitive issues.
did you ever think to read the Lakewood Scoop in private if it is a concern?
My point is that until now it’s been a family oriented site and I didn’t have an issue. If articles such as this continue to be shared, the Lakewood Scoop will not be something that anyone in my family will be able to see.
Maybe parenting would be a better option. You can very easily control your child if you want to shield them from things that happen in the world. Or maybe educate them on the dangers of these activities.
Don’t harp on the news company for doing their job.
I never even heard about this strange behavior. I can’t imagine why this weirdo would even want to get those unhealthy chemicals into his lungs! What does the law say about sniffing perfume?
What kind of ‘parent’ are you? Do you think that your kid lives in a vacuum? He can get just as much info and more just watching the tv news! Everyone has access to some form of ‘news’! Huffing is nothing new.
your children know about a lot more than you think!! Open your eyes?
I’m pretty sure I learned what huffing was when I learned about every other drug in either middle school health class or during a dare presentation at an even younger age…. that didn’t make me go out and start “huffing” whip cream cans or spray paint. if presented with an offer of huffing some fumes at least at that point I was made aware of the danger and even at that young age could choose right from wrong.
I would be more concerned that your child doesn’t know about huffing being DARE in schools warns kids about the danger of inhalants. That’s it.. time to pack up, move to a farm in Idaho and home school
Who cares what you think don’t read it then problem solved maybe your kids should know it’s wrong before they are doing it with friends and think it’s ok

I don’t remember when the Lakewood Scoop was a family oriented site. In any case, your teen shouldn’t be getting any information from blogs or other internet sites, or from friends etc. Its time to sit them down and open a dialog. There are alot of “dangers” out there they have to be aware of and they should learn them from responsible adults who love them.
