Online Petition To President On Behalf Of Rubashkin Gets Over 9,000 Signatures

An online petition to get the President to call for an investigation into the Rubashkin trial, quickly reached over 9,000 signatures on the first day. The petition, launched Thursday, only required 5,000 signatures within 30 days of submission to earn an official response, but hit that number within hours of it going live.

The petition, ‘Call an Investigation into Allegations of Prosecutorial & Judicial Misconduct in the Case of Sholom Rubashkin’, comes just one week after Rubashkin’s 27 year sentence was upheld, and his appeal was rejected.

  1. Even though it reached the 5000 minimum… There is no maximum!

    Everyone please sign this.

I signed Last night. The whole process took less than 2 minutes.

  2. If everyone keeps on signing it will show Mr. Rubashkin and his family that we all stand behind him and give him chizuk!! May Hashem give him the strength to get through this, and he should be home soon

  3. Is this petition authorized by Sholom Mordechai ben Rivka’s legal team? We wouldn’t want to do anything to jeopardize his appeal. (I’m not against the petition. I just want to make sure it’s not going to cause any problems.)

I wonder if its because of the overwhelming response from our kehila…

  5. To “Curious”:
No,we are NOT condoning criminal activity at all. We are protesting one of the greatest travesties of justice in our time. This man led an extremely successful business for years and years supporting an entire town. PETA didn’t like his activities as they abhore anyone who dares live at the expense of an animals life. They went after him and to make a long story short, put him at the brink of bankruptcy. This was after the raided his plant and took away most of his workforce because they were illegals(forget the fact that wherever I turn in this country that’s all you see doing all our “menial labor”. AFTER being brought to the brink of closure did Rubashkin misstate his assets in applications to banks. So in essence PETA forced him into a tight spot where he was compelled to falsify an application/s. I don’t mean to condone this activity either but it is very different than someone CHOOSING to fraudulently obtain a loan from a bank or do other illegal activity. Worldcom,Enron,Tyco….do these names ring a bell to you? These were PUBLIC companies that mislead the PUBLIC. They changed the entire landscape of the financial markets. Sarbanes Oxley was passed as a result. The CEO’s of these companies whose crimes were FAR greater in proportion received sentences that are a joke compared to what Mr. Rubashkin got.
So in short; all we ask for is for a FAIR trial and that TRUE justice be served. 47 congressmen and three past attorney generals have all said that this is a true travesty of justice and a shame to our justice dept. They cannot ALL be that wrong.
Thank you for reading and commenting.

  6. To #14, Mr. KKK,
So, essentially what you are saying is that if your are in a tight spot financially it is OK to rob a bank – you were FORCED to do it, you didn’t CHOOSE to do it. Wow!

  7. Mr. Green
I’m quite sure I wasn’t sleeping when I wrote my comment. Perhaps you were when you read it. I specifically said we are NOT condoning his action EVEN though he was forced into a corner. Absolutely not! The law is the law regardless. It does seem though that there was an agenda here to “get him” during the entire process from the raid down to today.
What we,47 congressmen and 3 former attorney general’s ARE asking for is a just punishment for his crime. It is ludicrous that the CEO’s of Enron,Tyco,Worldcom and others whose crimes make SR’s pale in comparison and yet they were handed sentences that are ALL lest than Rubashkin!! Enron was the largest corporate fraud in US history. It harmed the entire public with it’s collapse. And yet Enron’s ceo received a lighter sentence than Mr. Rubashkin! Please explain. How many people were adversely affected by SMR? The other point I DID make is that at the end of the day there is a BIG difference between one who committed fraud willingly for years and someone who because of the actions of others was forced to do so. Yes, there is a difference and generally even a court of law will take such a thing into account. That doesn’t justify his action, it simply differentiates between the two. So once again, please explain how it makes sense to you that EVERY single one of the sentences of the previously mentioned CEO’s were less than Rubashkin. The CEO of Tyco has a chance of getting out after EIGHT years!! Does that make sense to you? Not to me!

  8. Do you know what’s the most beautiful part of this whole petition?
Take a look at who started the petition, who was the first signature. It was a Yid from Kiryas Yoel,of Satmar! What better way to go into Rosh Hashonah then showing Hashem that we will cast away all our differences when it comes to helping another Yid?
