One Year Later: Woman who Stabbed Lakewood Resident in Random Attack Snubs Court

One year ago today, a Lakewood resident was stabbed in a random attack caught on video. But the victim says the suspect snubbed court, and appears to be out on the loose.

“On April 19, 2021 the defendant failed to appear in court and the honorable judge Michael T. Collins issued a warrant for the defendant’s arrest,” a letter in April read. “Court proceedings will resume after the defendant has been arrested and you will be notified of all future court dates.”

But there were no future updates, because the woman is apparently a fugitive.

The suspect, 38-year-old Erika Cruz, was arrested after the victim heroically chased her down after pulling the knife from his back.

“Erika Cruz was transported to the Lakewood Police Department where she processed and charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose,” police said at the time of the arrest. She was subsequently transported to the Ocean County Jail.

However, on January 11, 2021, the suspect was released to family. Part of the condition was that the suspect needed to remain at home at all times unless going to court. But she failed to show up.

“The status is the same, she’s still a fugitive,” the victim repeated from the Victim Witness Advocate. “There’s a warrant out for her arrest, so if anyone sees her, they should call the police.”

  1. Never understood why she wasn’t charged with attempted murder. Who is the prosecuted? Seems like they are only interested in Jerseycare offenders.

  2. These days in In Democrat run America you can Smash and Grab, Stab and Run, Shoot and walk away and much more. As the famous Bob Grant used to say on the radio: It is sick and getting sicker out there”! Actually, I’d blame the stabbing on Climate Change….

  3. Home confinement comes with mandatory GPS Tracking.

How can we let dangerous people like that on the run? How fair is that to our brave officers who now have to put their lives on the line for a second time to arrest her?

  4. The victim should have gotten a restraining order against the perpetrator. The Lakewood police are accustomed to responding and arresting violators in our community under these circumstances regardless of whether or not the allegations are founded.

You took the words out of mouth the ocean county court system and police spend Tens of millions of dollars on monitoring restraining orders and making arrests on every Flimsy bogus Restraining order and subsequent “Violation” issued against Frum Yidden in Lakewood over Narishkeit however here you have an attempted Murder and they just handle it as some Minor Traffic Violation
