One Killed, Four Injured in Manchester Township Crash

One person was killed and four others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning on Route 70, authorities said.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer reported that Manchester Township Police responded to the area of Hilltop Road and Route 70 at approximately 8:15 a.m. today after receiving reports of a serious crash involving a fatality.

Investigators from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit–Vehicular Homicide Squad, Manchester Township Police, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office determined that a 2014 Dodge van, carrying a driver and three passengers, was traveling westbound on Route 70 when it collided with a 2017 Ford Sprinter van, also traveling westbound.

According to authorities, the Ford van was attempting to make a left turn onto Hilltop Road when the Dodge van crossed over the double yellow line, passed stopped traffic from behind, and struck the Ford van.

Three front-seat passengers in the Dodge van were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with injuries. A fourth occupant, who had been riding in the cargo compartment of the van, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford van was treated for minor injuries at Community Medical Center in Toms River.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Manchester Township Police, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
