One person was hospitalized early Thursday morning following an overturn accident on Ocean Avenue in Lakewood around 2:00 AM.

The vehicle reportedly struck a utility pole, bringing it down and causing significant damage in the area. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported one individual to JSUMC with serious injuries.

As a result of the downed pole and ongoing repair work, police say Route 88 will remain closed between New Hampshire Avenue and Lanes Mill Road for most of the day.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and expect delays in the area.

UPDATE: The road has been reopened.
