Officials Look Into Parking Issue On 9th Street After Fire Truck Gets Stuck

9th_between_lex_and_clifton_tlsOfficials are looking into a parking issue on 9th Street after a fire truck had trouble passing the parked vehicles. Ninth Street, between Lexington and Clifton Avenues, have vehicles parked on the North and South sides of the road, making it difficult for vehicles to pass each other on the narrow two-way street.

This afternoon, sources tell TLS, a fire truck attempted to pass the street with another vehicle attempting to pass in the other direction, causing a traffic jam.

“Why don’t they just make it into a one way street?”, one student tells TLS.

The Traffic & Safety division of the police department has been notified of the issue and are investigating. TLS-CPC

  1. Working day shift and addressing this problem for some 60 days now let me tell you traffic and safety as well as administration has been aware of the problem.

  2. This was a problem last year during the snow storms…and has not been addressed for a year…. 10th, is even worse….
I see parking has been approved on the site of the old baseball field…
Yet Lakewood didn’t pave it or add an entrance to it…
So if someone rips out a tail pipe or blows a tire hopping the curb does the bill go to the town

  3. please we are begging to pave the baseball field look at it today its a disgusting mush of mud and most of it is unusable already. and when it snows its immpossible to plow like this

  4. I think the Yeshiva should not park on that block because they are causing tremously problem in almost all location same as forest and 10th st all that location BMG should cut the drivers and make carpools it important they be considerate the safety of Lakewood.. That st 9th st is most worst place I ever seen it causing accident fustrations and too many cars.. same as 1072 Building it causing hetic.. BMG should make a parking rules and carpool to help the traffic flow go better in these locations

  5. They should make 9th and 10th one way streets each going in opposite directions, and have parking on both sides. The same thing should be done on 6th street and 7th street between Lakewood Avenue and Forest. This would double the parking spots for the yeshiva as there would be parking on both sides of the street. It would also make the intersections of Forest Avenue and 6th and 7th streets much safer as cars wouldn’t be coming from 4 different directions. More traffic lights and street lamps on Forest and Clifton also wouldn’t hurt. Come on already–some things in Lakewood are running as if we have the population we had in the 80’s. Lakewood is almost a city, and it’s time to adjust to it

  6. Where my parents live, it is considered a law that every house has to have a garage, if we would have it here, it would solve a lot of problems, such as stolen bikes,carriage,s..a place where we can keep the cars…

  7. I agree with you there are too many people who abuse the street instead of parking in their driveways.. Come to E9th St there are people who are not thinking about other people that don’t have a driveway that live in the basement.. On my block one family own 7 cars and other family own 4 cars.. What is the problem why can’t they park in the driveway if they have the money to spend on car insurance so they must have money to build a bigger driveway.. I don’t understand Lakewood is such a mess people don’t think about other people … It a sad feeling ..

  8. The problem is that we’ve gone so quickly from being a sleepy town to a huge city. However, our mentality still hasn’t changed. When we start to realize that there is no difference between Lakewood and lower Manhattan, then we will just learn to live with the traffic and parking.

Thank you to all the builders that just build and build and cram it in at every corner without regard to all the old timers and the peaceful quiet neighborhoods that used to be Lakewood.

Wake up Lakewood! Change is coming!

  9. I don’t know if you realized, but people don’t think when they drive/park/pull over. As it is, 6th and 7th can get ridicules with the way people stop in middle of nowhere to drop off/pick up others.

If you were to make them one way with parking on both sides, they would be parking lots.

We should have assifas about driving like a mentch instead of tzneius.

Just today, I was waiting “on line” to make a right to leave my development, and someone behind me (aprox the 5th car on line) just……. drove on to the sidewalk and drove across the grass because he couldn’t wait (and no, he was heading away from the hospital. not to it). Great way to educate your kids about safety……

  10. Its the truth. What has the township committee done for you? The only thing they have done for me is raise my property taxes almost forty percent over the last two years. (moderated)

  11. If people would use their driveways we could get through too instead of driving down the middle of the road which is SO dangerous. Some of these streets do have signs that say no parking this side but do people listen???? NO, if you park where it says no parking you should have your car towed, then maybe just maybe people would adhere to the law.

  12. Get over it. The hatzolah member was breaking the law end of story. The fire truck is a REAL emergency vehicle not a personal vehicle with lights and sirens. You really need to stop thinking volunteers are above the law and can do what they want. By the way i’m a volunteer firefighter just so you dont think i’m attacking volunteers

  13. to #25- Amen..from one volunteer to another Thank You..No one thinks we read this there are a lot of us that do, and getting our voice out there is an important part of our safety and the safety of the residents here.

  14. #25 thinks that no one should be allowed to serve as an emergency responder unless he is driving a “real” emergency vehicle, not his personal vehicle. According to this, a Hatzolah member in the vicinity of an emergency would not be allowed to proceed to the emergency quickly (as financial resources are insufficient to have an ambulance present at every member’s location throughout the day). Instead, the emergency would have to wait for one of the ambulances to arrive. In many cases, these seconds can make the crucial difference. In #25’s ideal world, there would be many more dead people from such cases. But perhaps that’s not important to some people…. (It must also be noted that Hatzolah members are carefully chosen for their responsibility, professionalism, and dedication. Their care and due concern with all safety issues is at least on par with all other emergency service providers, if not more.)

  15. So a “real” truck can do whatever even thought hes going to shut off someones alarm but a “non real” going to save a choking kid should sit in traffic ??

  16. i guess theres no freedom of speech here, only the comments that are good for certain people stay.Even that i know this 1 will be erased too.Just to let you know anyway.

  17. The comment that i made before about the baseball fields on clifton ave being used as parking lot that you never post it.I want to know why that was offensive to somebody not to be post it.All i said was that if the college needs the parking spaces they should pay to paved and not have DPW do it with tax payers money.Anyway i post it somewhere else online where other ppl gonna read it and where they believe in Freedom of Speech. Thanks
