Off Duty Officers Take Part In Law Enforcement Torch Run For Special Olympics

PHOTOS & VIDEO: About 30 off-duty police officers from Lakewood, Howell and Jackson kicked off the 2012 Law Enforcement Torch Run this morning. The Torch Run, which began in 1981, raises awareness and funds for the Special Olympics.

Officers from multiple municipalities take part each year in the event in which officers run for several miles before passing on the torch to the next town and ultimately reaching Trenton.

The event kicked off from the Shoprite plaza at about 8:45AM, and made its way down Clifton Avenue and up Route 9 to the border of Howell.

Lakewood, which had about 10 officers in the Torch Run, raised about $2,600 this year. TLS.

  1. The Lakewood Police are an awesome group. As a just plain citizen of Lakewood for many years, I found they have always been there when called upon.

    I salute them.

  2. Thanks Officer Pete! These officers have a vested interest in the special education population in the Lakewood Public Schools. They are in our classrooms and support the students. They are the best of the best and better than the rest!
