OCPO: Driver in Fatal Lakewood Accident Was Speeding While Attempting to Navigate Around Turning Vehicle

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office today said the driver of the vehicle in last night’s fatal accident was speeding, and lost control when it attempted to navigate around a turning vehicle.

OCPO stated, “An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit revealed that a 2009 Infinity G37, operated by a juvenile and containing two passengers, Hector Martinez, age 18, of Toms River and another juvenile, were traveling eastbound on Cedarbridge Avenue approaching the cross street of Clover Street at a high rate of speed. An unidentified vehicle was in the left-hand turn lane attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Clover Street. The juvenile operator of the Infinity G37 attempted to navigate around that vehicle and lost control of the Vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway and struck the face of a building. The vehicle overturned and came to an uncontrolled rest on its hood. The juvenile passenger, who was seated in the rear of the vehicle, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The juvenile operator and Mr. Martinez were both transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune to be treated for their injuries.”

As earlier reported, the deceased was identified as a 16-year-old Lakewood student.

  1. These juvenile drivers are giving Lakewood a bad rap. This one ended very tragically. Who allows unskilled and reckless drivers out on the roads like this?

  2. The night before I drove by and observed about a dozen family members that lived there having a barbeque on the sidewalk with that very charcoal grill in the picture. My heart goes out to the family of the deceased, but the family that lives there was very lucky considering when they scheduled their celebration for July 4th!

  3. Less than one month ago, we lost our Beloved Sean to road rage between two very angry drivers. He was an innocent bystander on his way home from work. He and my daughter had just married three weeks before. Our Hearts are Broken ???? Why are these young drivers so angry? Our lives are changed forever ???? Senseless tragedies. Something has to be done to stop this ????
