Ocean Medical Center Discusses ‘Tchum’ With Rabbi Gorelick And Rabbi Kaszirer

Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Gorelick, Rabbi Yehuda Kaszirer, and Jason Beelitz of OMC have met this afternoon to discuss going to and returning from OMC on Shabbos and Yom Tov. Rabbi Gorelick has reviewed all of the measurements around the vicinity of the hospital and the distance to Lakewood. It is permissible to walk to most parts of Lakewood even without an Eruv. For the areas which are past that distance, Bikur Cholim has established an Eruv.

At this point, it is permissible to walk anywhere in Lakewood within 6.5 mile of the hospital. Be advised that areas west of Miller Road (including Westgate) are past the 6.5 mile radius. OMC and Bikur Cholim will be putting together a clear map to show the detail of the above in the near future.

On behalf of Ocean Medical Center, Jason Beelitz would like to publicly thank Rabbi Gorelick for his time reviewing and researching the Tchum proximity to the hospital.

Please feel free to contact Bikur Cholim at 732-905-3020 ext. 3788 for more detailed information.

Wishing the whole community and happy and sweet New Year. [Submitted by OMC]

  1. Thank you! It might be helpful to keep a copy of this map in the Bikur Cholim Pantry on the Maternity floor, or in the one near the Chapel, for people who end up there on shabbos unexpectedly….
