The Ocean County Health Department has received an initial shipment of 800 doses of the newly-approved Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine.
Officials are reportedly waiting for further guidance before distributing them to be administered to people. The news was first reported on Twitter by Jim Murdoch.
Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine is not quite as efficacious as the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, but still provides a high level of protection against severe cases of Covid-19, and significantly reduced hospitalizations and deaths in clinical trials. Health experts are urging people to take whichever vaccine is available to them.
Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine can be stored in regular pharmacy coolers and only requires one dose, unlike the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine which need to be stored at super-cool temperatures and require two doses.
