Ocean County Hit Hardest By Winter Storm Yet Ignored By Jon Corzine

emergency stormSnow continued to fall into the early hours on Sunday after more than two feet of snow has been dumped in the area. Governor Jon Corzine have yet to declare a state of emergency for Ocean County as the snowfall has nearly crippled public works departments and emergency management in many shore towns. In the past, statewide state of emergencies have been declared for much less snowfall amounts. Ocean County has been hit the hardest in the state by this weekend’s storm, but some fear politics may be in play as the County played a vital role in the election of Governor Chris Christie and in the defeat of Governor Jon Corzine in November’s election.

The move to not declare a state of emergency is suspect to be a partisan attack on the Republican stronghold by Corzine. By not declaring a state of emergency, Ocean County is not eligible for disaster relief funds, leaving the taxpayers and local municipalities to bear the brunt of the financial burden of this storm.

State of Emergencies so far have been declared in Washington, DC, West Virginia, portions of Delaware and portions of Massachussetts, however no declarations have been made in New Jersey, one of the hardest hit states by the storm. Jacksononline.

  1. Yenta, don;t feel bad, no streets except Ridge between lakewood high school and route 88 are plowed….. It seems they are only plowing for the jewish communities and that’s great, but what about everyone else?????????

  2. Ashley between Wynatt and Lincoln is actually quite Jewish. Even Lincoln is a nice mix. I do not think the township has some master plan to plow based on etnicity. I just know from experience that they tend to ignore Ashley and that they did not salt or plow the street.

  3. it takes Lakewood about 20 hours to clear the steets once the snow stops falling. Maybe you would like the DPW to do your dead end street first where no one but you is going to drive. They try to clear the most traveled streets first, so you will see them do the avenues, then streets. The county takes care of county roads, and the DOT the state highways. And did you see all the ignorant people that got stuck in the 24 inches of snow last night? How easy do you think it is to plow around them? Then there are the cars parked on the roads that have the sign that says “NO PARKING DURING SNOW REMOVAL” or “SNOW EMERGENCY ROUTE, NO PARKING”. Oh, did I mention it snowed 24 inches (2 feet) and the wind was blowing at 15 MPH and blowing the snow back into the street. Did you shovel out your sidewalk yet, you have less then 10 hours from now to get it done or you can get a summons.

  4. btw it snowed 27 in and lakeveiw was clear as of 3 pm and all the parking spots too and we have dead ends!! mizrachi shmukler and solkowitz rock lakewood should learn from them
