Ocean County had the fourth-most pedestrian deaths in the state, with a total of 37 from 2007 to 2009, including 15 in 2009. Route 549, with seven deaths, was the most dangerous road for pedestrians in Ocean County, followed by Route 9 with five deaths and Routes 37 and 70 with three deaths each during the three-year span.
